Questions about becoming an initiate

Is 5 successfull skill tests a bit steep ?

For a cult like Urox (which teaches all weapon skills) would you let someone go through all of his weapon skills (even the ones at starting level) ?

The initiation requirements are actually rather excessive and it's generally harder to become an initiate than an acolyte. I've gone back to something more akin to older versions and made the standard initiation requirements 3 cult skills at 50%+. That is Glorantha centric though and in worlds where initiation is actually rather rare you would have to take a different tack.

I don't think it's too steep. I view initiation as a big deal to most faiths. Initiation rites probably last a whole day, and could last as long as a week, in some cases.

Like the Great Hunt for hunters.

Perhaps Uroxi do mock battles or weapon attacks on dummies durring a day long event. Or something simular rather than a static pass or fail skill test rolls.

I view the purpose of initiation to show proficiancy rather than mastery, so depending on the GM and the cult, they may not require a perfect score, or at least give the potential intianites more than one try.

The problem is internal consistency. The standard requirement for an initiate is to succeed at 5 tests of cult skills while the standard requirement for an acolyte is four cult skills at 50% or greater.

For an initiate with 50% in cult skills then they must have 10 cult skills of 50% in order to reliably pass the initiation test. Basically, it's far, far harder to become an initiate in a cult than an acolyte. In fact, a rune priest with 75% in 5 cult skills actually has a less than 1 in 4 chance of passing the initiation test.
