Question on US tanks list

The US tanks weapons list, page 139 I think, lists a tiny 37mm gun as having a lethal zone radius of 2 inches. I presume this is a mistake and it does not have a lethal zone radius at all?

No mistake!

The 20mm cannon on the German armored car does as well, think of it as rate of fire. Or in the case of the 37mm, canister shot.

Exactly the idea! :D
Bigger gun is NOT equal bipper "splash"...

The only problem is that the 1" blast will generally not reach another target if you measure middle to middle (is this correct? Can't actually find the rules for Leathal Zones, say's turn to page 18 but there is nothing there.) turning an 88 into just a big rifle.

As far as I can make out a 1" lethal zone for example is a 1" radius so quite a descent size, and any model that is even partly in that area is hit.

With good separation a lethal zone 1 probably would not do much, but even a 2" zone pretty much must catch several targets

Well, it wasn't a very good artillery piece. It had a huge muzzle velocity and AP ammo, but was never intended to fire HE at infantry. Of course, some commanders DID fire time-delay AA ammo to airburst above the enemy, but this was more a desperate act than a tried practice.

Now, the old trusty 105 though...

When it comes to AT/AP shots, yes - the idea is that standing right next to a tank getting hit with one of these things is not the healthiest place to be, and the 1" Lethal Zone reflects this.

In the spirit of this, do Russian Desant tank riders all take a hit if the tank they are sat on gets hit by a weapon with a LZ of 1" or greater??

I assume that otherwise they are only really hurt (killed) if the tank they are sat on is destroyed??

"Place" the 1" radius on the center of the tank and check how many Desants are under it or touched buy it, depending on how cramped you have placed them they are all hit or at least many of them...

If the tank is destroyed they are gone too.
But you can choose to shoot at the Desants; quote from Page 112: The transported infantry models count as in medium Cover against shooting attacks from the Forward facing, but do not receive Cover from other facings."

Was really talking about HE shots onto infantry, but as you brought it up; does the LZ radiate from the center of the targeted vehicle, or from the impact point?

Impact Point only applies to Artillery. In all other cases, centre of the model.
