Question about Medical Replacement

Emperor Mongoose
I just want to make sure I am in sync with the rest of the Traveller Player Universe.

Character creation process, roll a mishap, sent to injury table, roll there and lost a leg and -2 STR.

Based on page 47 the Character pays Cr 5,000 per point lost to buy a restoration regardless of Cyber or Biological replacement. So for Cr10,000 Character has new leg and restores the 2 STR.

But if they want to increase their STR by 2 after Character Generation, they buy the +2 Augmentation at MCr1. So doing the restoration is way less costly that the augmentation because you are putting back not adding to.

Yes, am I doing this right?

Just want to be sure.

I do believe you are correct. From the way the Chargen system works. it feels like the mishaps are supposed to take place around year 2 or 3 of the term. The lower cost reflects the Traveller getting back to where they once were over a longer period of time using standard biological or cybernetic replacements and rehabilitation.

Where as the augmentation to go above and beyond what they originally started with would be much faster and a more invasive process. Thus noting the huge mark up.

Or, the Insurance Company paid for the cheapest version of what you needed to restore functionality. So you have a new leg, but it is a shiny silver color...

When you buy the Augment, you likely have to reinforce other body parts near the limb to allow it to work at the increased characteristic. So, you augment your leg, but as part of that augment is a reinforcement of the hip joint, which is a lot more expensive.
