Question about damage (Newbie)

I'm still trying to read through and figure everything out, but I want to make sure that I am understanding this...

If a character has 6 hits in the abdomen area, and takes 5 points of damage. He is reduced to 1 hit, and is ok, but if he takes another hit for 1 point (taking it to 0) he has a minor wound. If he takes another hit for 1 point (taking it to -1) then he has a critical wound. So the 5 point blow does no lasting damage, but the two 1 point blows give a minor and a serious wound :?:

You are correct. Hp at 0 is a Minor Wound, negative 1 through negative starting hp is a Serious Wound, and negative more than the locations initial HP is a Major Wound.

think of the hit points as a buffer. How much harm can be inflicted before it becomes serious.

Rather than focus on the 1 point blow "tipping" you into the next category, focus on the total damage sustained so far
