Psion is HERE!

It must mean the book will soon become available here in the UK.

I shall call Fan Boy 3 after midday on Tuesday (the earliest they'll be open during the week), or perhaps even FP in Liverpool on Monday ...

Well despite being on the Esdevium list for the UK for next week, they had no copies for sale at Mongoose this weekend, or I would have bought one.

They're a UK company! Why would a UK company release it in the US before releasing it in the UK?!?

Okay, I'm not really that upset about it ( to myself) but I am curious.

I think the printer is in the US, so it gets to US customers first (I pre-ordered it as soon as it was announced).

I have had a chance to read it and I like it.

There is a very nice section on what kind of Psionic setting you want to have: Traditional Traveller, Space Opera, Space Fantasy etc and some suggestions on how to tweek the rules (Psi score mostly) for that type of campaign.

Lots of new Talents and abilities. It really does cover the gamut from Traveller to Time Travel to Dimensional Travel to Mind-Ships.

While a lot of it is not applicable to a Third Imperium setting, it certainly expands what other types of games people can play with the Traveller rules. With this book you can add Jedi Knights, B5 Mind-Ships, or that pesky Time Lord who travels around with pretty girls... The pieces are there.

If you want to allow Psionics in your game, or just expand on what is in the basic book, this is a good start. I like this book and will certainly incorporate some aspects of it in my game. But there are several other Talents that I don't think I would allow in my game. BUT, if I was to play a different style, they certainly could be applied.

This book is much more of a tool box for the Referee to pick and choose what they want to allow than something where you accept everything and go on. It states over and over that the Referee needs to decide whether to incorporate a particular Talent.

It discusses alternatives to the standard Psionics Institute and how psionics could be dealt with if they are legal/illegal or just being discovered.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to expand on the use of Psionics in there game.

The audience didn't complain when certain episodes of Babylon 5 were released in the UK two weeks before the US release. Likewise, when some WW books came out early over here, there weren't too many complaints for that they were six weeks ahead of the States.

Sometimes, turnabout is fair play - particularly is this keeps the Usarians sweet on Mongoose.

I beg to differ. I for one complained long and loud about the US not getting preferential treatment during the airing of B5! I even have the honor of JMS telling me to stop complaining, there was nothing he could do about it. I'm quite proud of that actually...

As I said, I always believe in turnabout being fair play. Sometimes the UK gets first bite; other times, it's the States getting the choice morsel of some British product before we Brits do. Blame the Marketing departments on both sides of the pond. :)

Actually, none of the material in any of our Traveller books is Open Content. . .

Sorry, Matt, but I beg to differ.

The Universe of Babylon 5 Book has a nice little paragraph right at the beginning that specifically said that the RULES were Open Content. It was actually a nice section that clearly defined what was open and what was closed.

My bad, you're right, the B5 book has it :)

We all know that Mongoose are just releasing these black cover books to incense The True Fans of The Game Who Know What Traveller Is Better Than Mongoose And Marc Miller. ;)

Only problem with the B5 book: No OGL in the back. So even if another publisher wanted to use from the book it, we wouldn't know the list of products to update our section 15 with. IIRC the OGL isn't in the Errata either.
