War level on the other hand is at least offering you a ship that's meant to fight. If you're fighting in 2261 at least. After which they're all destroyed...
All the completed ones were destroyed, there is nothing to say that others were not built. I can see 2 scenarios, some Shadow Omegas were not complete in time to face the Whitestar fleet. After the active ones were destroyed, Clarke's supporters realised they were on the losing side and jumped the unfinished Shadow destroyers to a covert location for completion at a later date.

Alternatively, someone could have copied the technical data and used it to construct more at a later date. In fact this is the more likely scenario. We know that some shadow tech survived as it was the basis the for the Nemesis.

Just because all the Shadow Omegas that were functional in late 2261 were destroyed does not mean that they were the only ones ever built.

Why would anyone duplicate the Omega-X program when the Warlock and Nemesis destroyers use Shadow technology better than the crude and nasty Omega-X ever did?
Numbers, upgrading an Omega to an Omega-X is probably a lot faster than building a Nemesis or even a Warlock from scratch.

Your Omega-X is inferior to both these ships, though. Now, using a partially-completed Omega-X for study and duplicating more of the Shadow self-repair skin and such, that'd be a reason to see them in what-if games...

However, if I can field enough Omega-Xs to make up for their inferiority against your Nemesis and Warlock, then it doesn't matter...

Granted. Plus there's the psychological aspect, seeing the Omega-X ressurected would be a shock for a lot of people and highly symbolic of a return of the Clarkist/Night Watch regime...

Personally I say screw the self repair, I would rather have shields. What else are all those spines for after all? They are supposed to be the energy dissipaters, it'd be nice if they actually did what they were supposed to do. I'd give the omega-x like shields 15/10 or 10/10, since it has a lot of big spines, and the hunter would either be a 10/5 or 5/5 and the nemisis would probably be a 5/5, not much for an ARM ship but it doesnt really have many spines either.

All 4 in hyperspace with 1 Fighter already launched (I think that's okay).
Shadowcloaks already on the table, to enable normal action after emerging from Hyperspace.
Turn 1 or 2 - All 4 open their Jump Points trying to do the JP Bomb maneuver (5+ to achieve).
Next turn, choose the best positioned Jump Point, let the others drop. Emerge from there. The owning ship cannot Launch (as he's holding the JP open), but the other three can. So that's 7 OSF's and 4 light ships dropped on someone's vulnerable spot, AFTER they've endured a few JP Bombs.

Not too shabby for a Battle pt, I'd say. :-)

The same strategem crossed my mine, but it is a risky venture, which seems to fit with the Psi Corp theme. Not only are you rellying JP bombs against a 5+ CQ test, but chancing your Shadowcloak to survive from being more scrutinized due to fielding less ships then a standard battle fleet.

Still I imagine pulling it off will be hella worth it.

The self-repair on the Omega is a hold over from the previous edition when shields didn't exist.

Shadows were always a bit low tech for my tastes in first ed, and was happy enough to see shields added for their 'special' but was surprised they didn't bring the Omega up to snuff.

I brought this up with DaBoss for the shadow tainted drazi in his suppliment, and he went with minor shields. I liked it, and on the Omega even a minor set of shields would do fine. Say a 8/1d6, it still has interceptors so wouldn't want to go too big.

Just seems we need a cheat sheet for the races that lists their techs and traits for when things combine. A bit like Hiffano's supplement had more Abbai/Brakiri sloshing. Now if he'll only adopt my poor bimith alternative with the grav shifter we'd be all set.

So, given I now see tremendous use for the Figher-Carriers and Shadowcloaks, what EA era and ships do folks think would be best as allies? Assume I'm building a 5 War Fleet, possibly for a campaign.

I've pondered Marathon vs Omega vs more Hunters

I'm by no means sold on the Shadow Omega, esp compared to the Warlock.
Ditto for the Nemesis vs the Excalibur...

Take the Excalibur over the Nemesis, the Warlock over the Shadow Omega and, considering the rest of the fleet you've suggested, I'd go with more Omegas than Marathons, but if you can, do about 60/40 or 75/25 Omegas/Marathons...

I almost forgot...did anyone ever figure out for sure if the Shadowcloaks come one ship or two for the price listed? One poster said they got 2, another said only 1...and the online ordering seems to say only 1. It's a big difference between ordering 8 for $96 or $48. :-)

Man, if only the Drazi Sunhawks came two for $12...
