Prototype Klingon paint schemes.

Tough crowd

Have to admit Klingons will always be blue grey for me, apart from the obvious BOP, but I also know a great paint job when I see one and even more importantly I always like to see someone else's different take on any mini.

Looking forward to seeing your future stuff Dave 773, very well done.

geez guys, come on, wheher you care about the blue/grey/green issue and suchlike, it is STILL a great paint job. who cares whether someone biffed with the BOP, it's happened, much like the Kzinti! so lets see your blue/grey efforts :-)

Loving the colour scheme, somehow the weathered look works especially well with Klingons giving them a somewhat ramshackle look, almost like they can't be bothered to clean their ships or maintain their appearance - though a Klingon 'ship wash' would be a scary experience.

Well, I certainly appreciate the comments- and I seriously do not mind any critical appraisal of the scheme. Believe me, I know a few purists who have very strict views and opinion on exactly this kind of thing. I know SFB fans who are more adamant about "historical" details than actual historical wargamers.

I think there's a very real loyalty to the original aesthetic of Star Trek. Though SFB/FC and ACTA:SF has built on the foundation of the orginal series and cartoon, there's still a strong sense of continuity in the design and rendering of these ships.

Though I loved ST:TOS as a young kid, it wasn't until my dad took me to see 'The Motion Picture' that I really fell in love with these vessels. So, to me, it was a K'tinga and not a D-7. So my personal preference is to take these beautiful sculpts Mongoose is doing and maybe try and move them, slightly, from the 60's into the 80's. That was my intention with this scheme. I don't expect everyone will dig it, but I certainly enjoy talking about it!

Looking forward to seeing more of your work - great stuff :)

Would you mind sharing what paints and techniques you used? I would love to paint my (still yet to arrive) Klingon fleet like this, but with a darker green.

Historical details on Klingons ships is a bit subjective since they only appeared for a few minutes in a couple episodes in the ToS. After that, everything goes to pot as they repainted the ships with each new movie or series (along with swapping which race owns which ships). I think there's enough leeway to pick any of a number of different "historical" color schemes for the ships, assuming they weren't already using multiple colors among their fleets and services anyway.

(Nice weathering, btw. I like that shade of green over the darker version that shows up in the later movies.)
