Project Card (Updated 06-20-07) - New Card: Brute Squad

Hmmm I would say PL3 only, these things are only a couple at most per planet.

Hmmm I wonder if its any relevance that my music collection on shuffle has just started playing Thunderchild from War of the Worlds  I can just imagine the ideas of glory a MI squad will feel when they find a Queen.... and then the horror as she rips them to peices.....

Cordas, are you speaking directly to the 'feel/fluff' of the game or what you remember the rules being?

Per the fluff I see what you mean. Not every planet even has a queen and if they get one, it should only ever be one. Only through exceptionally rare (almost never) circumstance would there be more then 1 queen on a planet.

That being said Hiromoon is right. You can take a queen at PL2.

I take that rule as Mongoose giving the players some room to do their own story missions. Maybe the MI drop behind enemy lines and attack the queen when her resources are stretched thin. Maybe a psychotic queen decides to lead a smaller group into battle so that she can guarantee she gets to be part of the fight.

Still, that lets some cheese flavored players create armies that are out of the 'feel' of SST. Kind of like in Warhammer how some empires players admit there are supposed to be only 3 steam tanks in the entire empire but they still use one every battle or the 40K Eldar players that admit that there only a handful of Aspect Warriors left in the universe but they still bring an all aspect army every battle.

I don't have or have ever had access to the Bug book, so I have no idea what it says, I am more going on the fluff feel of the bugs, and on the stats given by Hiro for the Queen.

Yes I love the idea of having a campaign where one of the ultimate goals for the MI (or Skinnie / Forth) player is to grab a Queen, I also like the idea of just a one off game where the idea is to grab a Queen (or have an insane queen that forgets her place in the Bug world and decides to go and fight), but if you look at the priority system, this ain't going to be happeneing at 2..... Or shouldn't be I feel.

Where did that queen pic come from? Are Mongoose planning this mofo, or is it a conversion?

Can we see a high res pic? Pretty please?

It is from a scratch built Queen created by Gauntlet, that he posted pics of in the thread linked below.

Well to be fair Cordas it isnt actually a PL2 bug.
The queen can only be taken in Colony level forces, which are basically armies made up of multiple platoons if I recall. So you're looking at around 2000pts to field one.

At 750 points for the Queen alone, I think you are going to have to feild probably a fair chunk more than 2000 points just to be able to get one on the board, which is how I feel it should be.

yeah just cause its the minimum, doesnt mean it would work that well :D
But honestly, who's gonna be prepped to fight one of those in a 2 grand battle?

Only someone with a couple of Pee Wee's or a few Skinnie Orbital strikes.

actually looking at the stats, I think it should probably have a lower target number, say 4 and a better armour save of 3+, what with it having 12 hits this would make it a bit less nasty.

Well the fact that it would take more than one nuke is nice :D
I don't know about lowering its target though, the things a little susceptable to accurate weapons as it is (size 5 ), if it was able to be hit with squad weapons too you could concivevably kill it in a round without to much difficulty... Even less people would bother taking it then.

There aren't a huge number of acurate weapons out there, and accurate weapons don't stop plasma, brain or tanker bugs from being usefull.

Giving a creature 12 hits, a target of 7+ and a kill of 13+ with a save of 4+ means its nigh on impossible to kill...... dropping its target to 4+ means that it can be easyily shot, but giving it a 2+ save means that most of those shots are just going to bounce.

The MI can cart out a terrifying amount of accurate weapons, sniper rifles and the D10 Javelin round are accurate, Id sending is accurate as well.
thats 3 accurate weapons per 5 man squad without reliants right there.
They may very well not stop them being useful, but what they do do is ensure the arachnid player keeps them underground.
Plenty of the skinnies weapons have accurate as well I think anyway (dont really play them), so I have to dissagree there, they're pretty common in the games I play :D .

Bump for Justice!

Actually, there's still people out there who play v1, and one has asked me if my cards are still available. In fact, they are! :D

I believe I just have the Brutes and Venerable Marauder to do for the skinnies before they're all complete.
