Probably a dumb question...

and might have been asked before, but for the grenade rule in the Advanced book it says you have to be within 6" of a building to use them. That doesn't mean you can only use them on the building does it? That would suck and really wouldn't make sense to me, well... less sense then having to be near a building to use them. I thought of this while realizing that the PLA actually stand a pretty good chance when fighting inside a building, as long as nothing can bring it down anyway.

Either within 6" or within the building to use those grenades. You do not attack the building but create 3" fire zone attacking your enemies. Each model in the FZ will have D6 rolled against it, even if not in LOS, plus they get NO cover or Obscure. Plus those bad boys count as double for Suppression.

Once you do that the building will take 4D6 against it. Note that means only huts could be destroyed with grenades. So no worries. Remember the unit that threw those grenades do not get caught in their own FZ.

Good hunting. 8)

I think its supposed to imply that the grenades can be thrown 6", but what I was asking... Say you have a unit either in or near a building, and the enemy has a unit in the street somewhere, could you throw the grenades at them even thought they aren't in the building?

For that matter, if there are no buildings around, can you throw a grenade at another unit? The Force Recon models have grenade launchers on their rifles, so maybe the grenades in the structures section can only be used during "entry" situations.

This would be nice to know soon. :)

No the grenade is for fighting in and around structures only. It is right in the rule book. You are throwing them in a structure. These are not grenade lauchers but hand grenades for close in fighting.

unfortunately, grenades are an area lacking depth in the game. You get them in buildings only. Though I want to say Matt has said in the past that they are somehow worked into the Close Combat score, but I'm not 100% sure.

Matt did indeed mention sokmkething to that effect.

I've looked at P.25 in the Adv Rulebook, while a Size 1 model unit must be within or no more than 6" from a structure to use grenades, no explicit mention is made of where the Fire Zone is created, though I assume it is within the structure?

Can we get an official word on the 'range' of grenades?

LBH

There is a firezone, look at the top of the right hand column of P.25:

A firezone is created as normal but with a 3" radius

"As normal" implies within LOS and a certain range, but no range is specified.

Personally, untill I'm told otherwise I'm going to assume the throw range is 6" because of the fact you have to be within 6" of the building.
