Prime Directive Campaign - Traveller, SF Marines, Starmada

I would make deckplans if I knew how. I mean, I do know how. But I don't know how the new game rules build a Constitution Class starship.

Prime Directive Traveller should be very cool. We've(our game group) has the idea to combine it with the Artemis Bridge Simulator for a game. :)

Shawn, there's been a huge discussion over on ADB's BBS.

It's a fairly lengthy topic, but it should bring you up to speed.

We must decide how long to delay this or if we release without an abundance of deck plans. That decision will probably be made after Origins. (... in mid-June.)

So another five months of delay before you decide how long to delay? Eek!

OK..been waiting since this was announced to be released in November of last year. That's a heck of a hold up. Why so much trouble with the deck plans? That doesn't seem like it would be more than a month to put together. Legal issues?

Since most of the famous star fleet ships are capitol ships fully detailed decks plans are not really useful. Better would be overall shape of the decks and their functions along with detailed maps of useful locations (quarters, bridge, engineering, sick-bay, etc).

Have you considered crowd sourcing maps? I'm sure you could find people on Profantasy's (makers of campaign cartographer) forum who would be happy to help out, especially for a comp copy. I know I would be.

Finally you could always release in PDF and then update them when the deck plans are ready. This would give you some cash while you finished up the dead tree edition.

I would think a major consideration would be the utility of deck plans, as in how often will a playing group actually make use of them. Deck plans/floor plans are usually needed for combat or more rarely if one needs to know distances like is character A close enough for guest alien B to use Telepathy (or something like that). I have deck plans of ships from a similar FASA rpg and only used them total of four times during a campaign, twice for boarding action combats in a several year campaign. But that was that game. If Traveller Prime Directive will be doing a lot of onboard combat, please include them. If not much, great eye candy, but don't worry about it. It's the same with Third Imperium setting deck plans. Having the deck plans for a Tigris class dreadnought are cool to have and look at, but the setting lends itself to have combats occur more often on smaller ships like the Far Trader/Fat Traders and the ubiquitous Type S Scout for more players.

To Alric's part about generic stuff:
Didn't ADB make things a bit more genric like control sections in for ships in the SFB Marines Module?
Also for more generic plans, could you something just the bridge or the "average" crew deck?
