Precise Shots using Sureshot

Banded Mongoose
Here's a nice bit of munchiness for all you hunters out there.

Certain Precise Attacks are allowed when performing ranged attacks, specifically Bypass Armour and Location Strike.

So cast Sureshot, declare a Bypass Armour, and not only is a hit that ignores armour almost guaranteed (regardless of the -40%), but your target also suffers a -20% to his Dodge/Parry.

Not bad for a 1pt spell.

On the face of it, yes, impressive munchkinism.

I'd probably rule that Sureshot guides the missile to _hit_, overriding some of the attempts of the archer/thrower, as opposed to assisting the artillerist to aim. As a result, Bypass Armour wouldn't be a valid option whilst using it.

In contrast those spells which assist with _aiming_ by giving bonuses to the attack chance probably could be argued to be used with the Precise Attacks.

Always remember that divine spells cost a POW to get and that they are limited by cult affilitation.

With few exceptions, only Hunter cultists get access to it. And that's about all they get. :)

Poor old Odayla doesn't even get that apparently. :D

Yeah, the type thing. You gotta look at Odayla's type, and see that he is of type: Hunter. Then you gotta go to the Companion and find all the spells that gods of type 'Hunter' have (by poring over the whole spell list).

Intuitive, ain't it?

Or use this list I posted to the wiki here.

He's a Hunter-type deity. Sureshot's a hunter spell.

Yes, but we all know this doesn't work. Since when did Humakti start using Berserk, or Ernalda get Resurrection? That's just nonsensical.

As I just posted on the other thread, there seems to be an assumption that the types applicable to a spell are treated as though the spells are doled out to all cults of that type. Glorantha doesn't work that way.

Humakt has had Berserk since RQ3, when all the death gods got it and poor old Storm Bull and Zorak Zoran became just another berserker...

Humakt's Berserk is his Death Song - all or nothing, death or glory, that kind of thing.

Ernalda getting Resurrection isn't really a problem. After all, Aldrya used to get Seal Spirit, Daka Fal got a version of Resurrection as well. Why not Ernalda as chief of the fertile earth? It should be one-use, though, although there's no such thing as one-use spells any more, so it should be double cost.

Humakt's had a berserk since the early 90s. He has berserker magic in HeroQuest. Its not the frothing, screaming, DEATH TO DARJINII USURPERS that nutcases like Shargash provides to his worshippers but is more of the fatalistic and deadly "It is time for both of us to die" of the dedicated warrior fanatic.

I have mixed feelings about Ernalda getting resurrection. I'd have a tendency to say 'no' as in Glorantha there really are very, very few gods who get access to resurrection. The whole 'coming back to life' thing is a central part of the Lightbringer Quest and is one of their key myths. Few gods other than Yelm and Chalana Arroy know the secret to getting back across the Great Divide. Aldrya and her ilk know it as they are plants - reborn each spring. I could make a case for Daka Fal's various cults as well, as the generic Judge of the Dead - but that would be fairly powerful spirit magic.

I don't want to think about Trickster having resurrection, though it would be very much in keeping with North American Indian myth.

From the literature in Thunder Rebels/Storm Tribe, Ernalda doesn't seem to get this magic. But I could make a case for it. I'd rather try to avoid the double costing of magic if at all possible. Who knew I'd miss One Use so much!

Le Sigh.

Oops, not such a good example (was harking back to RQ2 days)

Humakt or Zorak Zoran with Resurrect might have been better...

Ok ok, so that's two crap examples! :P

I agree you could make a case for Ernalda, but Barntar??

p.s. I'll shut up about this now..

He did die. He was one of the first gods to die - Vadrus made his death the first Kinslaying. But he came back after much gnashing and wailing of teeth by Ernalda who...

...went to hell and got Esra, Barntar, and Uralda. Oh dear.

(Okay, this is a fun game!)

Right, that's it, the gloves are coming off...!

Is Eiritha in CoG2 - she must be fertility, and she hid from death so didn't even know anything about it.

Oooh...what type is Malia? Chaos of course, but Fertility? Death? Both???

p.s When I said I was going to shut up, I lied! :D
