Post Refit Hood?

HMS Hood was due a major refit before this was delayed and then became irrelevant with her loss. Does anyone have any idea whether this would have changed her characteristics much?

Improved horizontal protection would have been desirable and doubtless more AAA but I doubt if she could have been spared for a long rebuild such as received by some of the Queen Elizabeths – though it is amazing how much more quickly things can be done in wartime.

There are Hood post-refit stats in OOB. . . not sure if that's the refit you were referring to though. . .

Hoods deck was supposed to have been reinforced with extra armor, to prevent what happened to her from actually happening. But Alas as you have pointed out, the war broke out and there was no time. Only thing changed characteristic wise, would probably have been her upper structure, she did have a lot of open space on her deck. Improved AAA would have been mounted and a lot of that open space would have been filled. I have seen several shows, and read several books saying that the actual explosion was Intially caused by a hit to Hoods 4 Inch ready ammunition stored in lockers on deck. Specualtion perhaps on my part here, but if the deck armor had been reinforced, that might have prevented the Initial explosion from causing the chain reaction it did, but then again maybe not.

Thats pretty neat, I like the look of the proposed refits. might be kinda hard to distinguish her from one of the KGV's after those refits, except the length.I bought the CinC soft metal casting of the Hood in 1/2400, was kinda dissapointed with it, detail was good except for the lack of the aft mast.(I crafted one for it), but does anybody know how the Fig is for GHQ?

I've painted the Hood from both companies. I actually prefer the CinC casting. It doesn't have all of the detail of the GHQ casting (masts in particular). But, I thought that it looked much better than the GHQ casting once both were painted up. I ended up selling the GHQ and kept the CinC.

Thanks much for that Info. I'll probably just Keep my CinC and not waste my money on the GHQ version. I crafted the aft mast for Hood out of a spare mast that came from a GHQ Japanese Myoko class cruiser. Was expediant i spose and saved me from being annoyed with the mast that wasnt there :D

The missing masts are the hardest thing to accept about CinC castings. Even the masts on my old Superior ships are better than no masts :D

yeah, the BB Valiant I got from CinC had no masts either, had to do my own as well. Also had to craft masts for my GHQ USS Pittsburgh tho, thought that was kinda wierd, usually GHQ does masts.
