Not that this would help - if the core temperature of your body instantly and uniformly increased in temperature because of this 'energy shift' then you'd be in serious trouble (if not dead) pretty much as soon as you arrived, with or without heatsink - the heatsink simply wouldn't be able to dissipate the heat quickly enough before it cooked your innards.

For any action, there's an equal and opposite reaction. The trick with using psionics is to achieve some sort of balance so that the reaction happens somewhere else, rather than directly on the psionicist's head, but even so, failure means his brain gets flipped out through his ear. :)

Use something like Ann McCaffery's "Gestault Machine". A power plant generates ENORMOUS psionic power. Then a PSI just taps into that power and uses it to move the ship. So, you replace the Jump Drive with a Gestault Drive and uses essentially the same fuel and has the same size, but now instead of an Astrogator, you need a Teleporting Psion of a certain strength. Keeps the game balanced and since the size of the Gestault Generators is really big, you don't get hand-held units creating game inbalance.
 
Traveller: Psions is going to treat psion-powered ships slightly differently.

The psion has a couple of options; either he can fold time/space mentally, moving the ship through the fold without teleporting it (think Dune). Alternatively, he can mentally augment the drive's potential with psionic energy to gain improved performance. Neither involves teleporting the ship, but there are limitations on what the psion can achieve based on hull size.

The Psions book is designed to be a generic game-aid, so the hard and fast energy conservation laws need to be ignored to some extent to accommodate the cool and groovy ideas found in space opera and comics. However, core Traveller psionics do maintain the conservation laws for teleportation, and how this restricts teleportation to different altitudes and so on.

But, essentially, a psion doesn't teleport a ship: he bends space to achieve a jump point between two separate points in time/space.

Which is essentially what the Jumpers in "Jumper" and "Reflex" do, but on a smaller, personal, scale :D

I would like to see three adaptations for Traveller.

1. David Drake's RCN series (and yes, I know that shipbuilding options would need to be expanded).
2. The Escape Velocity, Escape Velocity Override and Escape Velocity Nova computer games.
3. TSR's old Stardrive setting; this is never going to happen, since as far as I can tell, WOTC has the rights to it.
 
I want to create my own Sci-fi Campaign setting for a number of years (try a decade). Over the years, I have read and watched novels as well as films written by Robert A Heinlein, Andre Norton, George Lucas, Anne McCaffrey, Elizabeth Moon, David Webber and many others, so my campaign idea is influenced by many of those books and such Films & TV Series as Babylon 5, Gene Roddenberry’s Andromeda, Firefly/Serenity, Stargate SG-1, Starship Troopers (the book) and of course, Star Wars as well as the Honorverse Setting. So I want to create a Home Brew System that combines many of the elements of the above systems, but at the same time has the same sort of feel as a late Victorian/early Edwardian game in terms of travel time and communication, think steam ships and Wireless Telegraphy, as well as being used for campaign set different in different eras.
As my home brew system for my Campaign, the system will be a mixture of Moongoose Traveller combined with elements from Babylon 5 (especially the new Traveller B5 Sourcebook), Star Wars, as well as WOTC’s D20Modern/Future and a number of other games, including Stargate SG-1 and Starship Troopers, but with some major changes, these include the following subjects:
Tech Levels
In this campaign world, the maximum default Tech Level will be Tech levels 12-13, with some artefacts of various kinds available up to Tech Level 18. See below for suggested items.
Space Travel
In this campaign setting there are two basic types of drive systems, a normal space drive system and a supra-light system. There are two basic types of sub light drive systems: Reaction Drives (including both chemical and various types of nuclear) and Gravitic systems which are available from Tech Level 12 onwards.
There is only one type of FTL drive system in this campaign, the Suzuki-Lin Interstellar Pulse Drive or SLIP drive. This drive system operates like the Traveller Jump Drive in that it opens a subspace corridor, but uses substantially less fuel than a Jump Drive, see the following table for further details. Also, although the Jump Rating and tonnage required for the drive system remains the same, as does the distance travelled remains the same but the maximum Jump drive rating available is 4 parsecs a week. Some older Alien Races do have drive systems capable of 6 or even 8 parsecs per week, but these are very rare and are mostly artefacts, having lost the ability to manufacture this level of technology. Unlike Jump Drives systems, SLIP Drives are not restricted to a single week in Jump Space, as long as it has fuel, it can remain in Subspace.

Notes
The Min Fuel Tonnage required for the SLIP Drive remains more or less constant, until Tech Level 14 or higher levels result in vastly more efficient Power Generation Systems to be created. A second point to remember that the Ship’s Operating Range is as long as it has fuel in it’s tanks, for example a 5Kton Scout Frigate built at Tech Level 14 with a SLIP factor 4 Drive and carrying 1kton of Fuel has a range of 16 Parsecs.
Min Hull Size - Hopefully, this is self explanatory, at Tech Level 10 for example, the minimum size you can build a Starship is 5, 000 tonnes and the maximum SLIP rating is 1, by Tech Level 13 the minimum size for a Starship is a 100 tonnes which can be fitted with a drive system of ratings 1-4.
As with the minimum hull size, the maximum hull size is the maximum hull you can a SLIP drive onto. Please note that in this Campaign setting the only Race Known to operate Starships in the Multi-megaton Race are the Gray’s (see the section below on Alien Races);
Energy Systems
As well as utilising the Power Generations systems presented in both the Core Rule Book and High Guard, the only minor change would be lower the Tech Level that Antimatter Systems can be developed down to Tech Level 16.
Conventional Military Technologies
Personally, I have great problems with man portable laser technology, although it may be possible to create Traveller type Laser Weaponry, I just can’t see it becoming viable as standard Military Weaponry, I can see the Military using conventional cartridge weaponry until the development of rail guns and gauss weaponry (remember what happened to the German G11 Rifle). Snub and gyrojet weapons almost certainly will be developed for operations in Space (the Russians developed a recoilless cannon to used to arm a small space plane in the 1970’s). Laser mounted vehicle weapons are another matter and will be in widespread service within a matter of fifteen years and will continue to be used for centuries.
However, I am looking forward to the new Babylon 5 Traveller Source Book as I am hoping it will serve as a new source of Inspiration. (I am also looking forward to it to see how well they have adapted the Traveller Rule System to Babylon 5).
Vehicle Technology:
As well as talking about future of ground vehicle technology in general, I would also like to include Spacecraft in this discussion. The reason is that I have both read and watch Sci-Fi books, films and TV series for many, many years and one of the thing that annoys me is that no matter how “alien” non-human ships and vehicles look, they still are based on human preconceptions; for example: One man Starfighters are the direct descendants of horsed cavalry, but what if an alien race never developed “horsed cavalry” but instead used chariots until the development of aircraft and instead used multi-seat heavy fighter-bombers like the Douglas A-26 Invader or suppose a race like the Vrusk/Thran never developed track technology but instead developed Walker Technology. So I would like to have a chance to explore how different alien races would develop Starships and vehicles according to their genetic and cultural evolution. I know some people would argue that different races would develop similar solutions to the same problems, but I disagree, different races evolving on different worlds would develop different solutions to the same problems.
Mecha/PAPA
I have to admit I do like Mecha’s, although I not a skirmish war gamer, I did enjoy playing Battletech years ago and in the way that science fictions seems to lead the development of science fact in term of present day technology I can see the introduction of powered armour within the next generation followed by the development of MECHA soon after.
Robots & Unmanned Combat Vehicles
Again, different alien races and cultures almost certainly have vastly different attitudes to the use of Robots in general and the use of armed military robots in particular. For example, due to the widespread misuse of UCAVs during the Wars of the Ragnorak during the 21st Century of Earth, must human nations still adhere to 2047CE Treaty of Kiev, which bans their use, while the Greys make widespread of Unmanned Combat vehicles of all types including Spacecraft and even Starships.
Faster than Light Communication System
I want to have a FTL Communication system in the game, but I want to make it both very expensive, both in term of power and size costs. I am thinking that the minimum ship size capable of mounting a Tachyon based FTL Comm system is about a 1 kiloton at TL 11 and the power usage is the same as using the Ship’s SLIP drive to transmit a message about a parsec for a period of an hour at the most and the data transmission rate is equivalent to a 14kps modem and is NOT capable of real time communication.
Psionics
At the moment, although I do like the Traveller Psionics system, I am going to wait until the Psion book is out before I make any further decision on using it in my campaign world, but I do envisage using Psionics and Psionically operated devices.
Aliens
The only thing I disliked about Firefly is the lack of Aliens in the series, so my proposed home brew system will include my favourite alien races from a number of different games. These include the following species: -
Humanity: Of course Humanity is the main race, but not united, as humans not only still split by culture, race, religion & politics but also by genetics & cybernetics; I would also like to include races and cultures that have been transported from to distant worlds by unknown Alien Races for unknown races;
Greys: The greys have been called many things by writers, the Asgard, Fraal and the Vree, in my campaign world, they are still known as the Greys by humans, well because, we don’t know their name or where they are from originally, other race just call them the Old One or the Ancients. They are combination of the Fraal & the Vree, enigmatic Aliens, whose Technology is still millennia above ours and are a dying race who travel the stars in gigantic city ships. Sometimes, interacting and sometimes ignoring the younger races, sometimes helping them and then hindering them, their drives and motivations mysterious and known only to them;
Ape like Species: What if a human type species never evolved on an earth type world, but instead an Ape type species developed instead like the Yazirian and Varna races;
Avian Races: I have always been intrigued by the concept of avian type races and I would like to include modified versions of both the Guy-troy and the Traki from T4;
Felines: I have always loved the Aslan, Kilrathi and other type feline alien races, so I coming to include my favourite race, the Aslan, in my setting;
Insectoid: Alan Dean Foster’s Commonwealth setting and Robert A Heinlein’s novel Starship Troopers have always been some of my favourite books, so I want to include some kind of Insectoid Alien species like a modified version of the Thran/Vrusk, possibly by rewriting the Graytch race from T4.
Reptiles: Over the years, many sci-fi writers have postulated the development of reptiles into Intelligent Races, classic examples include the Drazi and Narn from B5 or the Unas from Stargate SG-1, so I will include a Reptile race like a combination of all three races listed above, based upon the Drazi (who have always been one of my favourite B5 Races, so I am going to steal from the new Traveller B5 Source Book);
Uplifted: Genetically uplifted creatures have always be a staple of Sci-Fi, be they dolphins, dogs or apes genetically modified by humans or creatures like the Vargr uplifted by Aliens, I would like to include some kind of genetically modified creature in the campaign, but I not sure of what to include, but I am thinking of apes, dolphins and neo-dogs;
Multi-Limbed Races: One of my favourite series of books is the General Hospital series of books written by James White, one of the races in there is the Trantor, a Intelligent Race about the same size of an Rhino, a similar race in the Traveller D20 is called the Virushi, which I would like to convert to a MGT Race.

Campaign Setting Next
 
Any future history for any Sci-fi setting is always partly based upon the writer’s prejudices and beliefs, so my proposed future history is based on my view of how the world will evolve over the next century. So let me introduce my guest from the future: Eint Trumandrox, an S’Nak historian of the Drox Hive from the world which humans call Draco Scorpius III.

An extract from the History of Humanity from 2008 to 2450 Lecture given to the University of Cambridge by Eint Trumandrox 15 Feb 2451”
“The Twenty First Century, which had started in such great hope, soon turned into tragedy, the election of Barack Obama as the First Black President of the United States and also the last President of the United States, can be seen as the time when the period known to Humanity as the “Ragnorak Years” or the “Time of the Wolf” began.
President Obama’s election had ushered in a sense of great hope amongst the people of the old United States, however the liberal economic policies enacted by Obama and the Democrats failed to improve the US economy and turned the recession into the worst global depression since the previous century. In order to provide the funds in order to spend the US economy out of the recession, many of the Rumsfold era Defence Projects, like the Joint Strike Fighter, the Future Combat System and Littoral Combat Vessel, were either cancelled or put on hold and the money was spent instead on capital projects designed to create mass employment in poorest areas of the United States, however many of these projects were grossly mismanaged by the Federal Bureaucracy, which began to turn even more authoritarian. A problem greatly compounded as the left wing of the Democratic Party, began implementing more and more of it’s political agenda and thus causing great political strife, not only within the US on such matters as abortion and gun control, but also with the other members of NATO, NAFTA, WTO and the Organisation of American States, by introducing Protectionist measures to protect American Job’s and Industries.
As the economy continued to stagnate, the Violent Crime Rate in the US began to spiral out of control, especially in the urban areas of the Rust Belt, so President Obama began to switch more and more of the Federal Intelligence and Law Enforcement Agencies away from fighting Islamic Terrorism and toward fighting crime. By the beginning of 2012, the US was in a state of extreme crisis, Cities like Detroit and Baltimore were nearly out of control, with widespread rioting and other social disorder in the poorest area. In a highly controversial move, the Democrat controlled US Congress not only revoked the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 and ordered Federal Troops freshly returned from Iraq into those cities to pacify them, but also proposed amending the Constitution by revoking the Second Amendment, a move met with extreme fury by the Right Wing, who accused the President and the Democrat Party of trying to turn the United States into a Socialist State, and then walked out of congress accusing the President of being a traitor.
So it was on the day of the President’s State of the Union address in 2012, with both the nation and congress bitterly divided, with a number of states threatening to secede if he did not withdraw his constitutional amendments. He began his speech to reunify the Country behind him and that was the moment when Al-Queda lunched their most successful and final strike just as they were being finally defeated, against the US, by donating a stolen Pakistani 50kt Nuclear Warhead within a half a mile of the Capitol Building, effectively decapitating not only the Federal Government, but also the majority of State Governments as nearly two thirds of the State Governors were in Washington. It took nearly a month for the remaining Governors, Senators and Congressmen to put together a semi-functioning national government.
In the interregnum, the world began a slow descent into chaos, as many of the national and regional conflicts that had been suppressed by the United States began to flare. One of the first to erupt was the tension between the Iranians and the rest of the Middle East, with their economy in ruins and with popular opposition to their system of government rising amongst the people, and with the US government in a state of total chaos brought by the Nuclear Strike, they tried to divert the people by start Wars of Liberation against both Iraq and Israel by invading Iraq and firing nuclear missiles against Israel. Unfortunately, for them, the other, mostly Sunni, Gulf States, together with both Syria and Turkey, allied themselves with Iraq and rushed forces to help repulse the Iranian Invasion. Also, the Iranian Nuclear Stike against Israel failed, as not only did the Israeli ABM defences destroyed eight of the ten missiles fired at them, but the other two missiles hit Palestinian Territory, the first impacted just outside the Hebron, but failed to detonate, but the final missile hit the city of Gaza, destroying it. The Israeli government, in a state of total fear, unleashed the fully mobilised Israeli Defence Forces and ordered them to attack the Iranians with everything including Nuclear Weapons, at the same time the US Central Command reeling from the Nuclear attack on Washington and believing that the Iranians were behind the attack, unleashed a full Alpha Strike on Iran using conventional weapons from all available US assets. The result was that within three days of the start of the Iranian Invasion, Iran as a country had ceased to exist. While this war was going on, the rest of the World stood by in a case of extreme shock, with the UN, NATO and the EU in a state of total paralysis.
Soon other conflicts began, both political and religious, as both old and new grievances erupted and so began a series of intermittent and bloody wars that tore the old order apart and lasted for nearly fifty years. During which time, many of the old nations both rose and fell in power, new ones were created and artificial ones were destroyed, old alliances were both either destroyed, strengthened or renewed, while others were created as axis of power shifted from the Atlantic Rim to the Pacific.
The old United States was one of those nations that fell, in the aftermath of the Nuclear attack on the Washington and with most of the Country’s leadership dead, a Triumvirate of three Republicans, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Fred Thompson and Rudy Giuliani, took control and split the US into three regions. The area south of Ohio and Missouri Rivers and east of the Rio Grande came under the stewardship of Fred Thompson, the Governor of Tennessee. While area west of the Rio Grande became the responsibility of Arnold Schwarzenegger, who had appointed the temporary Governor of California after the death of both the Governor and the Lieutenant Governor in Washington DC. Meanwhile, Rudy Giuliani was left with trying to re-establish government in the old North. However, the political and regional differences, which had been so exacerbated during the Obama Presidency and which had been temporarily forgotten in the aftermath of the strike, resurfaced and the Country began to disintegrate into two new major states: the Bear Republic in the West and the Virginia Confederacy in the South, while the Northern and Mid West States, abandoned by the South and the West, and fast becoming a failed state was annexed by Canada along with Alaska, while Hawaii and the Pacific Territories became an independent Nation again, allied with the Japanese.
By the Earth year 2067 CE, this World was in the process of beginning to recover from nearly five decades of conflict and was beginning to have hope again and in this moment, was when the S’Nak of Hrox hive began their invasion of Earth and so thrust this world into the Galaxy at large. But that, as you say, is a story for another day or rather after lunch.”

As I was saying before lunch, Humanity in the year 2067CE was in the process of recovering from nearly five decades of almost continuous conflict with itself when five S’Nak Colonization Ships from the Hrox Hive entered Earth Orbit and began their assault on earth using Mass Driver and other weapons, they assumed that they had the technological advantage over humanity, but in reality, even the poorest and least advanced human state had not only more advanced, but more effective weapons.
What the Hrox Hive discovered to their cost, was that we S’Nak were only slight more technologically advanced than Humanity and only then in the area of Space Technology, especially Faster Than Light Technology. So while we S’Nak were able to dominate the High Orbit, humanity dominated the Close Orbit and planetary areas of engagement. Especially, the surface where centuries of conflict had led to humanity of weapons and tactics far beyond what we S’Nak had even conceived of especially armoured fighting vehicles. The result was a stalemate and after two years of conflict, eventually the Hrox Hive had to surrender, they had suffered heavy casualties, not only in loss of thousands of S’Nak lives, but also in the destruction of three of the Colonisation Ships, however, in the end the surviving two queen’s had no option to surrender as retreat was impossible as their voyage had been a one way trip of over ten parsecs and they had no fuel left to travel to either of your systems gas giants to refuel.
This attempted alien invasion, united your race in a way never seen before, at least for a short while, and spurred your people’s charge for the stars and a charge it was. Humanity’s ancient paranoia’s against strangers, which had been so inflamed by the attempted invasion of the Hrox led to Humanity to try to conquest known space in order to defend itself from another alien race. The capture of the S’Nak ships and other technologies, which had been reversed engineered almost since the start of the invasion, allowed humanity to develop military Starships. By 2075 CE, Earth Ships were capable of travelling nearly two parsecs in a single Jump, in fact the two Human Scientists, who had first managed to reverse engineer our technology, Hiro Suzuki and Ang Lin, actually managed to substantially improve the performance of our FTL technology. Such was the case, when the second wave of ten Hrox Hive ships arrived in the year 2081, this time Humanity was waiting and earth’s defensive forces were able to defeat the invasion without the invading forces being able to enter high orbit, due to it’s now superior technology.
By this time, Humanity had also began exploring and settling the nearest star systems, partly in order to set up military bases and partly to ensure humanity’s survival in case of earth’s fall and humanity’s destruction. Soon this cautious expansion became a tidal wave as humanity began an exodus not seen before by any of the known alien races. And this expansion, came in three parts, the first wave of colonisation was led by United Nations, the Major Nations and Power blocks, the second wave was organised by the big multi-national corporations seeking new sources of materials and markets, while the final and largest wave was comprised of a wide and diverse menagerie of different groups seeking to escape Earth and in order to create their own personal utopia and as result your race’s genetic evolution accelerated, but not however it’s cultural evolution, in fact rather than uniting your race diversified even more."
