As I staded before, the Posseidon is a bird for the Cat with its current configuration. Because of the carrier 8 trait it has gained some value in a campain now tough, unloading all its fighters and escaping to hyperspace in turn 4 (opening jump gate in turn 3 of course)

It realy needs hull 5, and a missile rack.

I was hoping to see the range restriction removed from "Fleet Carrier" with Armageddon, but I haven't seen it come up in discussion, so I guess its overlooked. The Fluff text describes launching fighters from hyperspace, or launching and then escaping to hyperspace to protect the mothership; but a 30" range doesn't allow you to do that, and escaping to hyperspace counts for a tactical withdrawl. You can't gain the benefit of fleet carrier or command +3 for that matter. For these abilities to matter the ship needs to hang around.

If the ship jumps away in the fourth turn, you still have three turns to profit from all its traits. Even so, if you open the jumppoint, your posseidon can still linger on the battlefield till the sixth turn, en then if the battle goes well you don't have to jump... :D

The big problem with the posseidon (and as far as Ive heard it HASNT been toughened up at all) was that it was simply too fragile for a War level choice. It may LOOK tough on paper but in practice its low hull, combined with the fact that it IS a war level choice and hence a very valuable target tends to see it blown to bits fairly rapidly. The carrier and fleet carrier and command traits ARE valuable assets but they are not worth a whole War point. Even with slightly improved fighters this still doesnt help as by points breakdown (apperently) you now get 36 fighters if you buy them individually (Ive yet to see how the new breakdowns actually work (that is to say I havent bothered to read up on it till I get armageddon :P) but from the sounds of I have a nasty feeling they could end up skewing the game even more towards favouring 'swarm fleets' using lots of raid and lower pls choices and few if any larger ships :(

Two Avengers seems to be a better choice than one Poseidon. You get the same number of fighter flights and you'll keep fleet carrier until both are destroyed. Command bonus isn't as high but I didn't say it wasn't a compromise...

Well, lets assume that the 16 fighters and traits make it worthwhile. The trick is to make it tough enough not to be a no-brainer kill for the enemy.
I dont see why it would seriously less armoured than any similar period ship. looking at this I think its armour should be at least 5, since the same era Omega is six, double the amount of interceptors than the omega sounds right too.

Give it armour 5 and I think it would become a much tougher cookie.

We are assuming now that armageddon changes it to carrier 8, since taking 4 turns to deploy its firepower is far to long, even for a fleet carrier.

I always wondered why it didn't have AF weaponry...seems a no-brainer. Maybe it's assumed fighters on CAP will take care of it but having AF would free those fighters up for other duties.
