Please explain ACTA:SF Critical extra damage to me

OK,
I'm reading the 2 examples on pg 8 and looking at the charts on pg 9.
The extra damage in the examples does not make sense to me.

In the first example it says a critical score of 1 to the Impulse Drive causes an extra point of damage, but the chart says extra damage: 0?!? It goes on to say that when the critical number is increased to 2 then 3 extra damage is applied. The chart says critical score 2 yields 1 extra point.

My understanding is that the extra damage field is cumulative, so the example would make sense if the chart said critical 1: 1 extra damage and critical 2: 2 extra damage.

Did the charts change after the examples were written? Are the charts wrong? Am I reading them wrong?

Example is correct just not real clear. Look at the hit chart on page 7. A critical result is still a solid hit and it also rolls on the system chart. So every time you roll a critical you get the solid hit (damage point) for the roll and you also get a number of bonus solid hits (additional damage) it list on the chart.
