Plasma torpedos How do they work?

Hello this is my first post and I have a question "How does the Plasma torpedo work?"

Which aspect?

A plasma Torpedo is a multi dice heavy weapon. It starts the game charged, once fired it requires the reload special action to reload allowing it to be fired again.

Each torpedo is a single weapon and must be used against a single target; you cannot split the dice from a single torpedo against multiple enemies. For example a Plasma S is a 4Dice weapon, you fire the Plasma S against an enemy ship and all four dice are applied to the enemy.

Each class of torpedo, F, G, S, R, D has a number of dice. All Plasma torpedoes suffer from a loss of dice over range; this is covered by the energy bleed rules.

Incoming torpedoes can be shot down by defensive Phaser fire, see page 16.

Basically read the book and then ask which specific questions you have after that

OK let me ask this way then,
I uncloak and fire a Plasma torpedo type R at my opponent ( Federation Heavy Cruiser) from 8 hexs away, and he misses all the rolls needed to reduce damage so it hits with a full 7 dice would you roll those dice or because it is a seeking weapon you just assume that it all 7 hit? So if all 7 hit do they hit the hull or shield? I guess my point is how do I figure the damage applied to the enemy?

Plasma automatically impacts the target unless dealt with using one of the methods noted in the rules, so at half range all 7 dice would strike the target (no roll to hit, so no chance to bypass shields).

As the weapon has the Multihit D6 trait, you'd roll 7xD6 and apply that number of hits to the target's shields. Hits in excess of the current shield value strike the hull and each one is rolled for on the Attack Table on p7 of the rulebook, just like hits from direct fire weapons.
