Pictures of Klingon Squad box after cleaning(pict Heavy)

I got the Klingon squadron box not long ago. I figured I would take some pictures before I start to prime, and paint them. It took me around 2 hours or getting flash off and trying to whip them into shape. I am no modeling master so I just did the best I could with them.

C8 I had to trim around the neck area so it would fit into the back section, but I got it to fit after a little while.

D7 Kind of disapointed as the back warped, and the nech is kind of wobbly

F5 After taking these it looks like I have a little more flash to get off of this one.

The D7 I am going to try to get hot with a hair dryer then bend back to shape and stick in a cup of cool water and I hope that will fix the warp problem. I have mixed feelings on the box. I am hoping the Fed box I bought will come out a little better. I am still waiting on it and the rulebook to come.

i actually used hot water to soften mine and then dunked em cold water. the hoter water give me more control over the heat level. the hair dryer might cause other issues.

This is not filling me with confidence, particularly if that's after 2 hours of prep work.

On the D7, do what you can, but I'd be asking for a replacement.

just as a counter point, i spent 15 mins whilst watching top gear cleaning. my only major problem was one warp nacelle is misaligned, so i need to try and resculpt it. I have a few "tiny" airholes to fill which i reckon is a 5 minute job.

Those look about typical out of the box, except I had other issues with mine. Much more air bubbles, mis-cured D6 engine/wing.

I figure I spent about 3-4 hours cleaning up the 5 ships in the Klingon box. These were part of the early runs, so I hope the QC has improved somewhat. I am rather picky about appearance and as such, I spent more time puttying them up to look pretty. :D

I probably averaged 30 minutes per model on my Fed squadron box for prep and assembly. It was more time than 2400 series take by about 15 minutes per model but there is more detail to be treated. The Fed box had plenty of flash and mold lines to deal with but no air holes and thank goodness, no drooping components.

Same with mine. My Federation ships had no warping or disfigurement but I had to do alot of Filing and it still all isnt perfect.

However not the worst models I have ever had to deal with

Mine were not as bad as yours bro but it took me 30 per to assemble because of all my issues with the bad casts. I can see why you don't want to send it for a replacement because you never know if that will come.

Mine were pretty similar and I used hot water to fix the bent wings. It works really fast, faster than other resins I've had to straighten. About 2 seconds in water that was freshly boiled, straighten, then run under cold water to instantly fix it in place.

Maybe I got lucky, but my Klingon Squadron box was pretty pristine. Needed some bubbles fixed, but seemed to be little flash, and detail was very good.

The F5 (and other ships) from the Squadron box were so good that I immediately ordered more through Mongoose's Storefront. The F5 Frigates that I ordered individually were much more problematic. When they arrived I immediately knew they were going to need work...

The original is the painted mini.

These models have so much potential, I just hope the latest changes will produce this level of quality, and be able to be made quickly enough to satisfy demand...

Thanks for the tip about the hot water guys. I will try that instead. Nice models LTJGBEAM. Unfortunately mine will probally never look half as good as what you have done.

Yeh hot water seems to work well on resin. At least did for me on "fine"cast Caradhryan whose halberd was bent as hell. Dip to boiling water, then hang it straight up and dip under cold water. Took couple tries but eventually it was bit straighter than it used to.

Still resin stinks on long thing objects :-( Like halberds, spears and so on. They seem to always bent and can't seem to get them as straight as metal.

the good thing is, it's easy to cut, so you can replace long thin bits with brass rods :-)
