Person Hours?

Minor issue, but what exactly is a person hour?
For example, air (or food, or whatever) for 1 person for 1 hour. So 10
person hours would be sufficient for 1 person for 10 hours, or 2 persons
for 5 hours, or 10 persons for 1 hour, and so on.

An alternative meaning is the work done by 1 person in 1 hour. In this
case the work of 10 person hours can be done by 1 person in 10 hours
or by 2 persons in 5 hours or by 10 persons in 1 hour, and so on.

Remember that this is traveller. A person hour is in fact a standard sized Humanoid hour. Droyne etc use small hours which are half the size and Kkree use horse hours which are much bigger.

There is a famous book about man-months and computing development, "The Mythical Man Month" by Fred Brooks. In particular, it states that adding more programmers to a development project slows it down.

Yes, when relating to a person-hour to work, it is a general concept that is supposed to be used within context. There is always the classic counter-example: Nine women cannot have a baby in a month. However, a large project with discrete components can often be sped up with more people. To a limit.

Of course, if you are rating life support in terms of person-hours, then such considerations fade away. Nine women really will use up nine person-hours of air in one hour. Or, if one of the women immediately kills the other eight, she would get all nine hours of the air.
