PC games close to BF EVO

How about BF2 down to even most of the same armies (USMC, PLA, MEC, and British). 32 guys per side with some vehicles and the odd helicopter.

I think he meant strategy war games as opposed to first person shooter wargames. Games that let you command an entire army.

True, like in the Ghost Recon games or Full Spectrum Warrior. I'd say Full Spectrum Warrior has the best of both first person shooter and stragety command game worlds.

Full Specturm Warrior is fantastic but not really a first person shooter by anyones logic, its a squad based strategy game.
Operation Flashpoint and Armed Assault are both fantastic games and I love them both but their interface and control system in general still feels a little 'clunky'
Ghost Recon (the original) was fantastic, Advanced Warfighter (the PC version anyway) was just too awful to even start on (I wont go on but seriously, I could rant for a VERY long time about how much GRAW on PC sucked).
Rainbow 6 Vegas on the other hand is by far the best special ops game ever made on PC. But its not really a 'war game' as such.
Conflict Global Storm is tremendous fun but isnt really that hyper realistic, more action movie than war documentary. Same goes for C&C generals. Fanstastic game but not really all that realistic.
Then we have Combat Mission. If youve never played any of them I HUGELY recommend them, theyre fantastic games, essentially realtime, table top wargames with a worrying level of detail. If this game lives up to its predecessors it will frankly be a 'must have' title for any wargamer!

Well I loved GRAW for the PC, but I won't rant on about that either. Just one question though, did you hate it because it would'nt run well on your PC?
Steel Panthers! Any variety will do nicely but WinSPMBT is the one you would be looking forward if you want to play with modern stuff :twisted:

Albeit scale isn't invidual mens as smallest infantry element is squad but close enough.
Bad thing though is that the AI just SUCKS! But these are at their best when played against other friends. Realistic visibility+human on other side=loads of fun. Especially as these newest versions have fixed some of the problems that were in first versions.
And both games are free
