Painting mini's

Just got my federation fleet box (Metal), and as these are the first models I have ever got from mongoose games, I'm wondering if I need to wash them before basecoating (I'm using the army painter primer) like I have to do with Forge World ones for (I know there resin, and these are not but just wondering.

I also wash all of my minis before painting... regardless of composition.

It may not be necessary, but for the five minutes (or less) it takes to do a whole box; you can't go wrong.

Possibly silly question from inexperienced painter, what would you wash them with?

Warm water with a drop of washing up liquid, and give them a scrub with an old tooth brush. Then shake off the excess water and leave them somewhere warm to dry.

I havent washed any of my ships...and they've primed up quite nicely.

I'm not a scrub painter either....been painting for some 18 or so years now...trained by GW.

Of course I paint as a necessary evil...to get painted models on the board. Primer is Krylon flat Grey, and I paint with Liquitex base coats, cheaply obtained by way of Michaels. GW, and Vallejo detailing.

I've never found a model that actually needed washing...but I'm not trying to win any painting contests either.
