I prefer hardcopy printed material (even if all of my published novels are in eformats) as it's hard trying to snuggle down in bed with a computer monitor. Or when you're soaking in a bathtub with a glass of wine....

Thats why I haul it down to kinkos and have them print it out

Hmm, seems a shame that something about painting minis won't exist in hard copy.

I prefer hard copy over pdf.

Hardcopies are good but most people have access to industrial or work printers and can do it cheap :twisted:

I just get Kinkos to print it out and bind it for me if I want that. Usually softcopy is fine though for my needs.

The only problem with this is colour accuracy. A hundred different monitors, a hundred different printers, and every one will show the colours differently.

Really bad idea for something which needs to show the colours as accurately as possible for maximum value.

And a hundred different TV's on which to watch the original show so you can see what is accurate in the first place.

Unless someone has original colour data for the CGI models used in the show, I wouldn't get too upset about precise colours. Techniques for getting the mottled Shadow skin, the engines on Drazi ships or the shading on Minbari ships, for example, would be more useful.

Besides, if the painting guide does need to give exact colours, it can either list paint numbers from a popular company; or specify colours by FS number, BS number, RLM number etc. and let the modeller find the relevant shade.

Considering the quality of monitors now a days, I would be highly impressed if your eyes can distinguish massive difference in color. We aren't in the days of monochrome anymore. A typical monitor is going to display white as white as the next one. ANd, as has been pointed out before, unless you have original CGI information, its not going to be perfectly accurate anyway.

I just want pretty color pictures to compare to, with guides on how to get certain effects done so they look good.

As for monitors being consistent, that is so not true, some monitors have what they call a temperature setting, which makes white look very different depending on wwhat you set it to.

My point was that picture quality is not one of Mongoose's fortes. I submit the 2nd edition fleet book as my evidence. The Pak'mara for starters...
