Orlanthi profession - Dragonslayer

I need some opinions about the actual foe of the dragonslayer profession as stated in Players Guide to Glorantha.

The description states the character is involved in battling the EWF and the influence of the great dragon. That's cool, I got that much.

What I'm not terribly sure about is the attitude such a character would take when meeting a Dragonnewt. From my reading so far, not all of the Dragonnwets are on board with the EWF and the ones in eastern Ralios may even be an occupied territory more than willing participants in raising the great dragon.

Because of the way things are organizes, I may well have missed something while trying to read through the situation using multiple books.

So... How are you handling this profession?

Thanks!

Your questions will be answered to a large degree with the release of the Dragonewt book.

In the main, a lot would depend on the dragonslayer and the dragonewt being encountered. A crested/scout newt might actively avoid human contact and perhaps run away - or stand stock-still and pretend to be invisible. A beaked/warrior newt, especially one venerating Sh'kaharzeel (one of the True Dragons slain by Orlanth) might attack the dragonslayer on sight for pure revenge. There is one particular enclave in Dragon Pass, Ghosts Around, where Orlanthi bodies are exhibited as trophies in retribution for what Orlanth did.

Ralios is, as you suggest, quite a different situation. The dragonewts there are on the very fringes of the EWF and whilst there are EWF emissaries, the levels of co-operation are not as deep as in Dragon Pass. The dragonewts follow the agenda of the Second Inhuman King and may be completely ambivalent towards Orlanthi.

Any dragonslayer attacking a dragonewt, especially a warrior or priest, is in for a tough fight. Their dragon magic is powerful, often cast in advance, and, of course, they have no fear of death because they reincarnate. A dragonslayer taking a dragonewt head as a trophy might find himself the target of a very prolonged vendetta from the dragonewt he's slain: dragonewt's simply don't measure time in the same way as humans (they don't actually measure it at all) and will take as long as they like over seeking revenge - as long as it constitutes Right Action.

Like I say, there's a lot, lot more in the Dragonewt book which should be with you all shortly. I'm finalsing checking of the proofs so I know its on the way to the press...

Got to say I'm really looking forward to this Loz. So little has ever been published on Dragonewts in thirty years of Glorantha that this is long overdue. Really looking forward to reading your ideas.

Same goes for the Elfs book too.

LOL. Gotta buy the info. I would anyway when it's on PDF but I think I have enough of an answer for the Ormsland part of the equation.

Thanks.

There's a fair amount on Ormsland in the Dragonewt book. 'Absolute Circuitous Fortuity', the main newt city, has a lot going on there.

Will the PDF come out at the same time? I'm buying the Deluxe in book form (Already own the PDFs) but I'll cart around most of my library in my laptop.
