Orion Optional Mounts

A query about Orion Optional Mounts - once filled do they still get treated as completely separate weapon systems with the bonus on how hard they are to take out and the difficulties under say Power Drain - or do you merge identical mounts with the same weapon and fire arc into a single weapon system - eg the Salvage cruiser getting a pair of photons, or indeed taking two drone choices to supplement the 4AD it has already......

Good question. I would treat them as separate weapons systems. Normally heavy weapons are mounted in banks, as are most phasers.

For example, a Orion that has 3 option mounts could have 3 disrutors/drones, etc, but they are in different areas of the ship.

Be interesting to see what the official ruling is.

Indeed - I have plenty of SSDs to go and make a decision like that for playing purposes but some disparate systems in SFB/FC do get merged into a single weapon system in ACtA - drones being an example (especially on Kzinti)....so its not a simple rule, so I was after one :)

I had asked this before in the Rulesmaster's forum:

There was no "Official" ruling however. I like keeping each line as a weapon system, even if they are in the same arc and the same weapon, as it allows more flexible use to defend with only some, and also to split against different targets is desired. In the case of Drones, I am still kind of undecided: If they all get combined then then there is only one ADD group. If kept separate, then technically you could run ADD systems out of ammo quickly by rolling against each "Attack" separately. I think what makes the most sense is to leave them as separate lines so that different targets could be attacked or different lines could be used for defense, but to combine any like weapons fired against the same target as a single group when using drones.
