Origins Convention: Runequest sessions?

Banded Mongoose
Using the search function I searched the Origins Roleplaying Games pdf for Runequest and it returned 0 items found. I then did a search for Mongoose and it turned up Paranoia, Babylon 5, and Starship Troopers, but no Runequest. Are there really no Runequest events?

I'm not sure actually...but I'll give the organiser a call tonight and try to post something in the next couple of days.

I love the Origins people, but they do make the occasional scheduling errors. :?

Cheers,
Bry

Origins is my favourite of all the big shows, although sadly I've not made it over there for a couple of years now, and won't be there this year either.

At least there's a GenCon UK this year - I assume the 'Geese will be there in numbers...

Cool, thanks.

I talked with the event guy and he said that none of our demo team is CURRENTLY lined up to run any RuneQuest events, but I am going to talk to Alex and the demo team to see if we might be able to squueze in a session or two if at all possible.

Hell, if it comes down to it, perhaps I will run one at the table in the booth.

Here's to hoping,
Bry

Thanks for the update. When looking for a gaming system to publish some historical setting books for, someone at rpg.net recommended Runequest. So I've looked at the SRD's and bought the Companion book for $8 at a used book store. I'm going to pick up the Core Rule book and the Legendary Heroes book soon. I'm going to see if I can find any discounted ones at Origins, and if not probably order them online. I just figured I'd try and see some game play at Origins since I'll be shopping there. :-)

Have you seen Stupor Mundi? It's a game based in 12th/13th century southern europe using the RQM rules engine.

If you are going to produce historical supplements, it might be worth trying for some kind of consistency between settings. Since they will all be based on the RQM rules, it shouldn't be difficult to come up with some standard rules for Christianity/Judaism/Islam in that period and the rules in Stupor Mundi work pretty well.

I'd love to see more historical supplements out for RQ.

What eras/settings would you be thinking of working on?

I did see it on Lulu. I was thinking about checking it out at some point.

Cool, that's good to hear. :-)

The first book would be focused on Carolingian Europe (~800 A.D.) with additional information on the Matter of France (Song of Roland, etc.). I'm then thinking to expand the geographrical focus, but keep the same time period, eastward in the 2nd book to focus on Harun al-Rashid's Abbasid Empire with additional information relating to the stories in Arabian Nights. The third book would continue eastward and focus on the Tang Dynasty in China during the same time period (800 A.D.). The intent is to produce three separate settings that are complete for campaign purposes, but that allow easy integration to produce a vast world that a game master can use.

I would definitely like to get involved in the Tang book (if you're OK with my proposal). I have already worked a lot on mediaeval China, see http://www.basicrps.com/chine

Right now I'm concentrating on working on the first book, but certainly as the time comes for book three I'd be interested in having some people familiar with the history play test and perhaps help in other ways.

Dear All,

I have written a Ming Chinese sourcebook for another more historically based system, as well as half of books on the Shang and Han.

I was thinking of porting them over - but the Ming one alone is several hundred thousand words (i.e. in need of severe editing), and sadly I don't have the time.

Ah, 'The Journey to the West' might have to wait....

Regards

Are these for purchase or are they for your own enjoyment/game?

Have you thought about sharing them with the Alternate Earth RQ Yahoo Group? http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/alternateearthrq/
