Opposed rolls again

I think Duncan's point, that is getting lost here, is that the single opposed roll that always determines a winner and loser (even if both 'fail') has a definate place in the rules.

But that is the last time I am sticking up for him until he changes his Avatar. It is Soltakss birthday for pete's sake - don't you know that you should have your christmas ornaments down by now?

Yup, agreed. To go back to a point you made earlier there seem to be various options if all parties fail in an opposed roll.
1. No one wins; situation remains the same.
2. Some one wins.

In the case of option 1, sometimes it may be possible/desirable to continue rolling and sometimes not.
Examples: 2 suitors vie to impress the may queen the most, both fail and frankly she doesn't want either so she walks off in a huff and the two suitors are left only with each other. In an alternate dimension she has to make a choice so the contest continues until someone actually impresses her.

The case of #2 comes about in cases like a race or hand of poker etc where there has to be a winner but there is no way to keep rerolling and it is possible to win even when you failed at a skill simply because the other people performed even more incompetently.

In a race example I don't see why you couldn't role for each lap, so so if both rolls fail who ever was in the lead previously is still in the lead till the next lap roll.
