Online Gladiator Game

I'm considering an online Gladiator game over at RPOL, IF I can get a maptools whiz over there to sign on and co-GM the game (he's unfamiliar with the system as yet, but a mapping beast).

I'm wondering if anyone here would be interested in that sort of thing.

There wouldn't be a lot of plot...though I might insert some kind of meta plot to be played out later down the line.

For the most part, it would be banter in the barracks which could lead to challenges and match ups, eventual tournaments with the winner getting some specially made armor or weapon, but not a ton of RP (except in the barracks and on the sands). Occasionally 2 on 1 matches, or several gladiators versus a monster or some such.

Any interest here?

To me it sounds like one of those games there are already a ton of, so no, not really. Before I would invest time in it, I would need some depth and some sort of innovative gameplay feature.

But again, I am also a old and wizened man (in a young body) that can never be satisfied. So if you want to, go right ahead anyway ;)

Ha!

Yeah, I already have the heady, innovative game going (strong. Over 700 posts in 2 months- and I was on vacation for two weeks at the start...and there was the big Christmas holiday).

This is pure hack and slash, meta-gamer, character personality, witty repartee, combat style vs. combat style battle for superiority, good, clean fun.

Just fight after fight after fight. When your guy dies, roll a new one and fight again.

I think the fun would come in the different match ups, style wise, and how well people can RP their fighter (they will have to come up with a reason that he is fighting). I am interested to see what becomes obviously overpowered and in need of house ruling (ie. Javelins if their size is constant). I would be using the Monster Coliseum rules.

As I think you may know, I might be interested.
I do think that a pure hack and slash game would get a bit dull after awhile though, so I'd probably want to see some other elements as well.

Possibly a game that revolves around the gladiators where you use the faction/guild rules to detail your school. It could involve politics and management as well as the fights.

Spartacus: Mongooses in the Sand anyone?

I am interested. I am preparing to run a MRQII game at some point later this year, but I don't have experience with the rules. This would give me a chance to practice the combat rules. Please contact me crueldespot@yahoo.com if and when this gets firmed up.

That would be interesting.

Well, if the game uses the MRQ2 combat rules and Monster Colisseum, then I may also be interested.
