Old B5 Ships Vs. ACTA:SF Ships, scale question

How's the scale of the old ACTA: B5 ships compared to the newer Starfleet ones? Smaller? Bigger? I'm debating on either using the old B5 ships I have for substitutes until the fleets come out....either that or just selling the Dilgar/Centauri/Drazi ships and sticking with the paper counters a guy has.

Thoughts?

They would be fine - they use the same base size by and large and the Cruiser level ships are about the same size as the B5 cruisers - or at least the Fed ones I have actually seen - STILL waiting for my Klingons to arrive so can't speak for them.

Everything's measured from the stem anyway, so the size of the models doesn't really matter.

Federation cruisers are about 3.5" long and Klingon cruisers are about 3.25" long, smallest I have (Fed frigate) is around 1.5" long. Roughly the same sort of size range as the EA ships.

B5 ships aren't to such a precise scale as SF ships. At best, within one fleet, if ship A is bigger than ship B then model A is probably bigger than model B, though not necessarily in proportion. Different fleets are different scales - a Mongoose Drazi Sunhawk is much larger scale than a Primus, for example.

A Hyperion model is about 8cm long. The "real" one is 1025.39m long. That makes it somewhere around 1:12800 scale. (Source: one of the charts produced by Tim Earls.) I believe SF ships are somewhere around 1:3000 scale. The SF models are probably about the same sort of size as the B5 ones, they're just larger scale models of smaller ships.

As for using B5 ships as proxies for SF ships, someone did pretty much that in reverse in a tournament last year - his Earth Alliance fleet was depicted by a Federation line-up. :) It depends on how fussy your opponents are, but in theory it's fine provided everyone is perfectly clear what each model represents. (Use your Drazi as Klingons - the Sunhawk is pretty much identical to the Warbird, just as the D6 is pretty much identical to the C7. ;) And Drazi ships are relatively small by B5 standards so they might be somewhere near the right scale...)

So they'll work for now. Excellent. I do intend to sell them though when the ships start arriving locally. Any good sites for that besides EBay? I do so despise Ebay now...

Right here. ;) To be more precise, over in the "Other Miniatures Games" section.

they will work very nicely, in fact I have always thought that a number of the ships would still be cool stand ins.

Narn as Gorn
Centauri as Lyran (esp the Balvarin)
White Star - Romulan
