Not liking the MEA models (not a slam of MP)

I'm not liking the MEA choices of dress at all. Most note worthy are the Fedayeen. MP seems to want them to wear headcovers in the manner that a terrorist group would wear them instead of more conventional troops dress. This is not a slam at MP. It doesn't suit my taste that is all.

Since this is the MEA, a alliance of Middle East countries, I would thing other than the MEA militia, most troops would have a more conventional, if somewhat ragtag or not so high tech appearance.

Maybe I need to buy some other troops and repaint them to conform with my idea of the MEA, or are those troops comming down the pipeline?

If I do repaint, what troops would you suggest for the Fedayeen? Would the Russians with a repaint work? Like I said this is not a slam at MP choices of troops, but rather a discussion to help me decide what I will do to create the MEA in my mind, on the table top.

I agree..I mean to have these types of models in the MEA is great, for a few types of units.

I hope future releases will release a more "organized" group, like the Iraqi Guard or something like that..i can see them now... wearing perhaps solid green uniforms with little berets or no hats at all.

goverment troops are on the way :D

im loving the mea look, makes my converions a darn sight easier to do.

but a more middle eastern goverment look is comming later.

and if you dont like the goverment look the cheery on the cake will be the rioting mobs for you ;)

I think MEA will be the army for those who really like to vary their forces.. really cool
Imagine a special forces team conducting precision strikes in one part of the battlefield whilst the opponent has to deal with a "decoy"-riot...

I like them, they can be used as Terrorist groups OR certain religious groups, OR actual soldiers for certain armies.
Though I have heard they will be producing more 'standard' troops for the MEA soon. I can't see these troops fighting beside the Tunguska, nor can I see 'standard' troops fighting beside a tecnical. But hey, if the boot fits.

They're listed in the confirmed upcoming troops on the EvoCommand.com site. This information was pulled from a upcoming units list at the Mongoose Open day.

So yes, MEA will see more conventional troops.

That's not to say that the current MEA troops aren't trained soldiers, it's just they don't have a wealthy and powerful government equipping, supplying, and giving advanced training for them.

Thanks for the replies. I most likely gather the MEA slowly, till the more conventional troops are made. I really hate the faces covered models.

Already collected 8 trucks. Will buy some of the MEA militia, but not the Fedayeen. They look too much like PLO members.

BTW: Does anyone have a site where I can buy RPGs to add to the basic troops? Thought I'd do some light conversion work to add the extra RPGs to the squads.

Understand your view, but when in Rome dress like a Roman. I think they work just fine and add to the flavor of this region and conflict. (heck its what you see on TV everyday, and what we have seen on TV the last 10-15 years so I'm sure they will still have armed militia dressed like this 10-15 years from now)
I also cannot wait till more conventional forces show up. Add to that Delta Force, US Rangers, Navy Seals - As the USMC does not rep, these forces either.
What we have now are just core troops.

By the way are we gonna get some Indigenous Forces?

Thank you Sgt. B!! the DevilDog site look good, but still no single piece RPG I can work with.

The models look so good, I might just buy them and add to the BE game!

A lot of people - Americans especially (and understandably) have felt uncomfortable with the RIPPED FROM TODAY'S HEADLINES nature of the current MEA choices, and I don't think anyone would argue that you shouldn't. I remember when the old UK war comic Battle ran some stories about the Falklands war only a few years after it ended, and that garnered controversey for being "too soon".

but as other people have said, there are more conventional MEA troopers coming out, as well as MBTs and other hardware, so there'll be choices to allow you to play a less controversial-looking MEA force. that said you're going to be limiting yourself to a somewhat lower-tech version of the PLA, as much of the really fun stuff coming for the MEA is very much in the civillian militia style.

Well, I haven't felt that, Lorcan...not at all...

Especially when you take into account that the MEA chaps we're playing with are irregular forces.... a step down from the National Guard.

We were playing and thought that the MEA should have a defensive unit called Civilians. They get in the way and prevent you from drawing LOS thru them and prevent you from creating firezone when they are about. That would be great!

I've said it before, the first couple of waves are militia, like the various militias that make up the insurgency/large part of government forces in Iraq, security forces in Palestine, Hezbollah in Lebanon, Northern Alliance in Afghanistan.
When government forces begin to come out you'll be able to theme lists and have government forces with tanks, Tunguskas, buggies and government troops.
Militias you can see with T-55s and T-62s, but anything bigger would probably be government run.
