Not Happy

Alan Hume

Mongoose
Well, I did'nt think I would ever be posting anything negative about Mongoose but at the moment I have to say that I am totally gutted :x

I loyally supported the Dragon Warriors franchise by preordering a copy of the 'New' Dragon Warriors core rulebook from my local Games shop

Now, only a short while after I spent what, to me, is a considerable amount of money to purchase the latest version of the rules (a book I may add that didn't even have new cover art and was, to my eyes at least not particularly different to the version I already owned) I discover that for only a few pounds more you are now offering the complete run of Mongoose Dragon Warriors books

I know this is all perfectly legal but I am gutted, I feel like I have been had :x

Drop us a line, and we'll see what we can do to make it up to you :)

This was not a sneaky move on our part, incidentally - we only found out ourselves what was happening to the current DW line (i.e, nothing) a few days ago...

Thanks Mathew, as I say I really do feel gutted about all this as if I had known what was coming I really would have waited.

On the plus side however this is the first time ever I have ever had any issues at all with Mongoose (and it's not as if I'm particularly happy about voicing my opinions negatively here as I am a fan it's just that I feel very strongly about this is all)

Alan,

I think it's a bit unfair to be cross with Mongoose. DW was published through their Flaming Cobra business, and as such they are just the subcontracted printer and distributor. As Matt has pointed out, they were unaware of the IP machinations happening in the background (or at least didn't know the full story) and the decision to take DW elsewhere was not theirs, but their clients. It's not as if they had a masterplan from the start or ar actually in control of this turn of events. Their sale of the DW material at a discount is just a commonly used way to quickly clear stock beforee. They may well have been given a defined time in which to sell it and so it makes sense to clear as much stock as possible before it has to be shredded. Mongoose may have faults at times (what publisher doesn't) but I'd be cutting them some slack in this particular case.

Just wanted to say that Matthew Sprange has very generously sent me a copy of Reft Sector to make up for all this :D

It's really rather kind and I have to say it is much appreciated (I can put it to good use too 8) )

Thanks oh Mighty Mongoose

Did you think of emailing Mongoose before starting this thread? Appreciate some people like taking potshots at the 'man' when the opportunity arises but at least give the 'man' a chance to sort it out before going public!

and now you're taking potshots at me

thanks a bunch

FYI

I did what I felt was right at the time
the issue has now been resolved to my satisfaction
I have no gripes with Mongoose (nor did I EVER have any complaints before this, in fact I have been a LOYAL fanboy for MANY years and have spent a LOT of money on Mongoose books and STILL class myself as a loyal fanboy so I choose to disregard your comment completely, thanks)

hey Alan, glad you got a good result.
Nothing wrong with being annoyed on a forum, if their is valid reason, then why not. As long as it's reasonable and justified can help calm you down :-)

not every company is approachable as Matt and Mongoose, and sometimes a forum post is more likely to get you some action as the company may not want your negativity spreading.
don't worry about people taking pot shots at you, some people live for this, or can see no wrong done by company A, B or C, enjoy your books dude.
