Mongoose
I know mongoose had problems with their printing etc, I just don't understand what's going on.

I purchased the Megadeal when it was offered and since then only book 2 has been problem free; books 1,3, and 4 have all had printing issues where the print actually gets chopped off the page (because somehow the guillotine was misaligned).

I've since received replacement copies for 1 and 3, but for some reason I received 2 replacement copies of book 3. One was the standard square book but the second one I got was was a) about 1cm taller than the previous one b) narrower than the previous one and c) had a rounded spine instead of the flat square one.

What's going on with these books?

Did I get sent book 3 twice instead of book 4?

Are the bindings changing? I saw the message about the logo changing, something I don't really have a problem with, but if every second one of my books is taller and skinnier than the previous one I will have a problem.

It's not much of a collection if the set is made up of books in varying sizes and shapes. This collection wasn't particularly cheap to begin with, so I would have expected some form of printing standard.

What I'm actually more annoyed about is that anyone purchasing the set once it's finished will receive a cohesive logo and printing set whilst those of us who managed to scrounge enough money to get the megadeal are left with irregular collections of misprinted books.

I'm hoping all these problems are solved because I'm having second thoughts about whether I really want the megadeal, given the amount of problems I've had with it. The Australian dollar is doing really well against the pound at the moment which means a refund would produce a loss in money for me (as I I paid for it at a lower exchange) but if I can't be confident the merchandise I've paid for is going to get to me, in good condition or at all, then I'll take the loss to recoup my money.

I'm sad that Mongoose has had to go through all these problems and know they've been trying to fix everything as best they can whilst still keeping the company running, but understand that just as Mongoose needs to look after itself, so to do I.

Yep, this collection thingy is a nightmare.
Perhaps everything had fallen into the dirt.
By now we should have at least 8 book, while the 5th has not come out yet.
Problems with text, cuttery, bindings, logos and God only knows what else.
I'm really SAD.

What worries me most is that if the company get a bad reputation for the early books in the series what chance do we have of getting to the end of the collection? I really don't want to get half way through a 'Collector's Edition' collection only to see a post stating that due to lack of popularity they have stopped producing new books in the series...with no books 29 - 32!

The earlier books kept changing because they were tweaking their printing equipment, now they've switched to the American printers, which are substantially different. This should be the last time they change. The one with the rounded spine is from the new printers. You should contact Mongoose if they haven't sent you the correct books, chances are they'll send you a book 4 from the new printers if you're owed a book 4. What about your replacement copy of book 1?

The Collector's Edition has been paid in advance. You should expect it to be delivered.

'no demand' or 'lack of popularity' is not an issue for what has already been bought and paid for. Now that Mongoose has closed the Mega-deal, how many books they need to print is a known factor and from what I've seen they have been happy with the size of the print-run.

It is based on a Neverwinter Nights avatar which can be found on the IGN vault (part of a larger portrait pack).

The head is either custom or edited in a photo-editor while the gear is equippable in the game.

As far as Lone Wolf related forums are concerned Aguila Saber is a Telchos Amazon, and KHFA on the Tower of the Sun has made a colourized version of this avatar.

I've actualy seen a larger portion of the picture that image comes from but I still haven't seen the full picture. I might have the bit I've seen lying around somewhere if you're interested.

By that I mean that I've now seen 3 versions. This one (the one you're using) and two others, each identical but showing more of the picture (less zoomed in). And even on the largest one it's clear that there's more of it.

The TGA files in the pack has different zoom levels. The largest TGA file (256x512) shows hands and thighs as well while the avatar I use here is based on the second largest picture which is 128x256.

If it is based on an in-game screenshot I'd expect the original picture to have been cropped quite a bit. I.e the original picture would then be a full-screen snapshot.

But if you have some links to the picture feel free to share them (here or through PM). I've forgotten which portrait pack I found it in some while ago.

I'm fairly certain I've seen knees and shins as well. That's what I'm saying :p. I'm fairly certain it's not based on a screenshot (since there's versions of it in some old Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale portrait packs, from before NWN ever came out). That's actualy where I've seen it zoomed out a bit further.

The problem is that it's become so ubiquitous (what with everyone using it) that I'm not sure where I saw the larger versions either.

She's showing off her knees and shins? Shocking! What a floozy!

If you want I can show your face what the desert sand looks 5 inches under the sandy surface.

You will get a really good close-up look.

With regards the books, I intend to order each and every book, on a book by book basis, right up until Book 32. Ok, this will take years, but I enjoy LW and the books do look very nice, the new artwork is good and the extra adventure has been excellent.

The errors have let it down badly, however, that will not stop me buying them - I'll just complain!

Moneywise, it may well be worthwhile going back for the current 4 books that have been released for new bindings - IF they are error-free. Has anyone confirmed if they are yet or not?

They are most assuredly not error free. Missing and screwed up Equipment sections as well as the infamous section 192 error...

In which case I think I may wait a little while before looking at replacement copies to match the new style!

Well, you can get at least the first two books since they are from the new printers. And from what I can see, there's only one bad link in book 1. Otherwise, they should be perfect.
