noob question

hi just started playing this again and Ive forgot a lot and cant seam to find what I'm after. so hoping you can all help out . I have looked over the forums and cant find what I'm after so here goes . if you have sword and shield fighting style or any dual combat style and at say 70% and find your self disarmed . fighting with only half your style what skill do you have

The whole Combat Style system is something that is best the Gmn (and liekly the players) have a bit of chat about before the game - what happens when things like this occur - can you use part your style without penalty - and if it is a handicap then what penalty.

Personally we were always fairly lenient with this aspect of the game and the system

I'm not sure I totally understand the question ... if you still have your shield then you would use your Unarmed but couldn't use the shield or if you want to use the shield you can't make an Unarmed attack. If you lose one weapon while using dual weapons you'd still use your dual skill as long as you still have one of the dual weapons. As to be expected if you lose both weapons you use Unarmed.

Why would you? That arrow coming at your head would be nicely blocked by a shield which a weapon can't, with the RAW.

Rules are rather clear. If characters has sword & shield combat style and the character loses his/her sword, then the character can still continue using his/her shield with the full sword & shield skill. Character who has lost his/her sword can, besides attacking and defending with his/her shield, also use unarmed combat style without getting substituting weapons penalties, because that can be used always (even if you have weapons in your both hands you can always kick or headbutt etc.).

+ you lose the additional CA granted for having a weapon/shield in your off-hand as that no longer applies.
