Non-Sorcerous Scholar Backgrounds

The Background feature for the scholar pertains to their magical knowledge. In any of the splat books is it covered regarding a replacement (feat, skills, etc) for this when creating a non-magical Scholar? Seems most pertinent to NPC's (slightly OCD about completionism) but it would also be useful for those who either don't want to start out as a magical scholar or those who multi-class in for non magical reasons.

In a gaming sense the Background feature doesn't actually give the scholar anything. It actually restricts him by narrowing which styles are immediately available, as known by his masters (pact or otherwise). Still, even a non-sorcerous scholar may want to choose some form of background to explain himself. Priests of Mitra, Warrior Monks of Khitai, Librarians, or advisor. They would still fall in with some group, with the minority being independent like their sorcerous brethren.
