Nolo'tar and Troligan

I reckon the new Troligan isnt actually that bad a model but would be imporved if maybe they pointed the nose a little or added some neutron laser spines or something (like on the sharlin), made the fins more like the Sharlin/Tigara fins (more fin like less, well, big fat spikes). That and maybe a third port between the two others would help make them less 'eye-like'.

All that aside though I actually quite LIKED the old model it was just the statline for the ship that stoped people fielding it, I'm all for new models but surely this new desingn might be better added as a whole new ship for the Minbari and not just a replacement for the old design?

As for the ISA ship, I like it, the movie may have been <<huge string of colorful language removed>> on a stick but the ship DID look quite nice. And I'm very much in favour of expanding the ISA list with ships that are technically cannon before we start adding stupid resized whitestars to fill every possible fleet niche. (Im still half expecting the Whitestar Dreadnought, Whitestar Battleship, Whitestar shuttle, Whitestar Breaching pod, Whitestar maintenance drone, Whitestar Space Station etc etc.... White Star. That was enough. Whitestar II was pushing it even imho, what we have currently is just stupid)

Yes I know I've said all that about a hundred times, but it really gets on my nerves how much of a cheap cop out way it was to expand the fleet list. If they tried to pull the same trick with, say, the Omega or the Vorchan people would go ballistic!

I quite like the look of the Nol'Tar, shame it looks like its too big scale wise. Also I note that this is mentioned as a Transportational Frigate...seem to recall a big arguement recently about ships termed " transport"..yet her nobody bats an eye lid????

The Troligan also seems a bit big but its not that bad, but why a new model? Nothing wrong with the original in my opinion....

I'd not read that and i wouldn't place much faith in the filler text on the website, most of the other models' text are way out of date now!

It says ranger Frigate....
it was converted for transport.

doesn't seem to say that to me......

Lightly armed for a Ranger vessel, the Nolo’Tar is a throwback to the generation that survived Valen. Especially useful in training missions and evacuations, this transportation frigate became a common sight during Valen’s great Shadow War but fell out of use during the following thousand years. It was resurrected quickly when the Rangers began to deploy in larger numbers again during the next Shadow War, mostly to ferry refugees from planet to planet when the war drew too near.

Seems like it was a transport originally to me...but heh perhaps I can't read properly??? :) and was still used as a transport by the rangers....

Shouldn't it be a unique ship when used by the ISA? IIRC from the movie best not mentioned by name, there was only one of them left by the time the ISA came into existence.

I suppose a better paint job could take it somewhere...but if the sculpt itself isn't spectacular, painting will only take it so far. Here it is with color taken out of the equation:

Is it just me or does that ship look like it's unhappy? :D

Its quite a nice base to mod from. Drill out the fronts of the lower tentacly things and sculpt in more 'eyes'. Sweep the nose forward a bit and narrow it, still with the ribs. Bulk up the 'tail' fin so it is more Sharlin like. And perhaps bring the ribs up to the middle to the top tentacle thingy. I did try sketching a load of Minbari-type designs a while back, but they kept sort of crossing into looking very Centauri-like.

Still, it was just the rules that were the problem, not the original sculpt.

I quite like the look of the Nolo'Tar, certainly its a nice looking ISA ship that does not involve the words White and Star. But it might just be size issues.

That Troligan is starting to look like it could be good...

I think all thats missing off the Troligan, is a pronounced leading edge and secondary fin at the end of the existing fins (like with most Minbari ships). But it's still not a bad model, and I really do encourage whoever sculpted the model to keep up the good work he/she is doing s good job.

Yeah, the "octopus" part is good; the "shark" part is a bit undetailed. Quite a good model though, but I think the Troligan was fine before whereas other models are urgently in need of attention.

Dare I ask whether the Minbari will get to use that one, given that it's from the last shadow war?

its an out of use ship by the minbari, why would they use it? they gave it to the rangers to use.
the whole minbari should use ISA ships is actually getting quite annoying. the whitestars were built for the rangers, and the rangers only, without permission of the warrior caste. the nolo'tar is an outdated minbari ship given over to the rangers to fill a gap in their fleet and increase the number of ships they have available.
the minbari will not be getting any ISA ships to use.

So it should be a Minbari ship with very old in-service dates, right?
I mean that isn't that what "in-service date" means?

well you could always put an ISD for the minbari ending in 1260 to represent its lack of use. then you can have it in as many minbari fleets as you want but will have no opponents in the game :) apart from shadows of course in the last war. but then you would need a whole minbari fleet from that era.
maybe for a supplement this would work - the previous shadow war with a minbari fleet to use back then, along with babylon 4 etc.

I'd stick a few extra fins on the tail, and maybe near the wingtips and it becomes much more minbarilike, or at least minbai does disney
