Nolo'tar and Troligan

The Nolo'Tar, looks more like something the 'Gropos' would be using, and not the rangers.

But it does look like the ship from the awful Legend Of The Rangers so you can criticise JMS rather than Mongoose if you think it looks like an EA design. Ironic considering the Valen was supposed to look "Earthy"!

Anyways I think the Nolo-Tar is too big and I don't like the Troligan, what was the reasoning behind it getting a resculpt!?

Technically the painting of the new Troligan is great BUT I think it is the biggest contributing factor to the cartoony look. I think a darker scheme in general would be better. I'll withhold judgment for a while.

Also I think we are pre-disposed to not like it because it was not in the tV show so it will always look slightly wrong.

Also I think the Nolo'Tar looks ace...

I suppose the good thing is, IF the Nolotar was designed on the new system, surely it can be re-scaled in seconds? assuming That it IS a patrol or skirmish ship, and needs re-scaling.

I personally like the looks of both ships. I agree with the comments about it being to light in paint. I have a Minbari fleet and have played with the Troligan once. I have two of the old models and will probably get one of the new ones. They aren't very good on the table stat wise. Can't wait for the S&P to see what may have changed on the stats.

Does this mean the original Troligan sculpt will become something else? Strange move by Mongoose...clicking the new Troligan parts produces pictures of the old model parts. hm.

Very cartoony as others have said...it's begging for a little smile between those eyes.

Nolotar looks good.

I think it's the painting that does them more harm than the actual scuplt.
Agree with the Trogilan will look better darker & the camo paint on the Nolo Tar doesn't do anything for it either.

I suppose a better paint job could take it somewhere...but if the sculpt itself isn't spectacular, painting will only take it so far. Here it is with color taken out of the equation:

I don't mind the color. I like colors. I like variation. (I need to post my three color Minbari fleet.)

i think I preder the old Troligan, I have 2 in my Minbari reinforcements box.

Think I'll need to use some demo credit to get he Nolo though

Ya, I really don't know why the Troligan got attention. I think there are plenty of other other ships that could use some new design/mold love.

Actually, you know what? I think resent this new Troligian. The Minbari could surely use some new ships and models. They have the fewest of any major race. I like the new ship, but not at the cost of an old one. This is a zero-sum proposition. This should be a new Skirmish level ship and the Troligan (though needing some new rules) should have remained. The Minbari should have netted a new ship, not traded models! Ya, now I'm getting upset. :evil:

I think I do actually like the new Troligan. It has the same level of Detail of any of the old Minmari ships. In fact ot has much cleaner lines than the oldder ships. And it looks far more heavy set than the other ships which makes sense considering its background.

The new Troligan is an obvious homage to GW's work from the late '80s. It could easily a Eldar warship from a earlier attempt at making Battlefleet Gothic. Back when Gw concentrated on making cartoon character style minis.

The Nolo'Tar is just too damn big. Mongoose really needs to tone down their viewing on LoTR DVD special features. Big-a-atures are for movies, not minis games.

Exactly, unless there is some change to the ship. I don't see the point in buying one, I already have two and there are better ships I can use in my fleet to fill the same role.

Is it really that bad? The Troligan? I actually kind of like it...:: awaits the crowd with burning torches :: ok so maybe a little cartoonish but still kind of cool. I agree though that the Troligan didn't really need to be redone (apart from being a little frail) just given new stats. Still - you could always use it as another type of ship? The Nemoashi - new Minbari skirmish ship anyone

I like the ISA ship although it still looks like a troop transport, drop-off ship to me, maybe just the paint job
