Heck none of their ships could get through pretty much any ship without boosting if multi hit was AFTER substracting shields. Explorers couldn't dent any ship even WITH boost ;) (well except vuldrok since they don't have shields).

That's where the 0,875 result came from. :-)

Well I ain't official source but I'm 100% positive that is NOT how that's supposed to go ;) If it did explorers would be useless, frigates only barely so and you would need to have like 10 destroyers for each of opponents destroyer to have a shot. And cruisers/dreadnoughts you could only defeat by ramming them...

Thanks for the clarification! This makes sense. I'm used to the Fading Suns RPG, were shields stopped attacks, not damage. I'll need to remember that ACTA rules are much more abstract.

The Vau's main weakness is their low speed and low relative damage vs points cost. The smaller ships don't have many troops either, even if they are elites. The destroyer's Speed 4 means it will have to double its speed every turn to keep up with the slowest destroyers from the other factions. They also only have 30 hits like any destroyer. Chewing through 30 with Hull 6 will be a task but it will take damage every turn, especially against lasers. Their scouts will pop like balloons if they get too close and can't escape easily if they find a few Raiders nearby (perhaps even in the same cover!)

It's simple: you roll AD, calculate multihit then deduct the number of shields the target has active. Meson guns are (were) the height of human weapon tech and even then, the Second Republic didn't quite get on a par with the Vau. Known Worlds ships are less advanced and less well-constructed than in the Second Republic, so there is an even greater technological disparity than first appears. That's why the Vau have a Frigate with the armour and shields of a capital ship and a weapon capable of destroying or at least seriously damaging any human vessel. They're like Vorlons in terms of firepower and mysteriousness, but aren't really alike otherwise. One great concept regarding the Vau is their preference to adapt to planets via technology rather than altering or outright terraforming them like humans once did.

I think they look as challenging to use or play against as they should be...

More or less, yes :)

Our poor painter is working his fingers to the bone getting all the ships ready and pretty.

We did have a foul up of one prototype (Decados obviously got a saboteur inside...), but this is already being redone and will be in our hands early next week - and one ship is fairly quick to paint.

Once that is in our hands, all cast up and ready to go, the book will be off to print!

We are likely to have a Noble Armada tournament running at the end of September to feature all of these new ships and fleets, so we are kinda working to that deadline!

I've just noticed that to NA book has been pushed back again, this time to October. I must say I feel disappointed and let down. Minorly with the above post, part way though August, implied it was (appart from a few hic-ups) still on track. Mainly though, with the fact you pushed it back again without bothering to tell us, surly you should have though "people have pre-ordered this book, let's tell them they're not getting it......again".

Sorry for the rant, but ive been very patient and feel (maybe unjustly so) that something should have been said :(

Apologies, that was me hedging my bets - we basically have everything in line, but we need to wait for a handful more ships (another arrived this morning!) and there is no accounting for printer schedules. So, hopefully not delayed, just want to be safe.
