Noble Armada End of Line Sale

This is a sad day for us but, hopefully, some of you will get a boon out of it.

After discussions with Holistic Design (the ultimate owners of Noble Aramada and Fading Suns), the decision has been made to end the current A Call to Arms: Noble Armada game and miniatures line.

We feel we had a really good swing at this - Nine fleets in all, we explored some of empires/ships that had not really been looked at in great detail before, and we shifted the fleets away from the 'everyone gets a Galliot' feel to one where they started to distinguish themselves and gain their own character.

However, the sales have never really been high or even optimum on the line as a whole. We pulled a few of you ex-Babylon 5 players across, and some original Noble Armada players still out there joined us as well but, regretably, the game never really gained critical mass. And yes, there was some overshadowing by Star Fleet.

We were willing to continue the game as a 'boutique' line, designing new ships and selling via mail order, but Holistic (quite rightly) want to try a different direction - it is our understanding that FASA will be bringing out their own Noble Armada game. Any questions as to the line's future are best directed at them or Holisitc - I am afraid we are not party to any more information than you at this point.

On a personal note, I do find this a very great shame. I really do believe that, of all the A Call to Arms rules sets, Noble Armada is currently the best. Each of the core fleets seems, superficially, to be quite similar, but they all have their own unique character and nothing beats a good boarding action - in fact, if you grab the right enemy ship, you can reverse certain defeat and pull off a victory to remember. Not every game lets you do that on a regular basis!

However, we must bow to the realities of business and acknowledge that, best efforts aside, this is not going to be the game and line both we and Holistic want/need it to be.

All that said, we don't want to leave players stranded, and so we are having a little end of line sale - 50% off all Noble Armada models and books, while stocks last.

It is worth pointing out that if there is something you are after, act quickly, as we have fed stock totals into our web site, and once they are gone, models will disappear from the web site forever. If you are a Hawkwood player, for example, and are looking for cruiser support, please be aware that we have just one model each of the Vladimir and Heracles as i type this. For other models in other fleets, we don't have any more than a dozen of anything, and some ships are already out of stock - so act quickly!

If you are a big fan of Noble Armada, I apologise for bringing you down on this Tuesday afternoon, but you may just be able to bag yourself a bargain.

You can find all currently available books and models here;

Oh, one final thing - I know we have quite a few Noble Armada players near Swindon. If you chaps fancy one last Noble Aramada event/tournament, we would be happy to run it for you. Just let us know!

hmm very annoying as I just had my order dispatched today, could have told me in the emails last week.

NA never got enough attention mostly due to CTA:SF which didnt just overshadow it but kicked it totally into touch resulting in delays and completely being ignored.

shame to see this game go as its the last of the CTAs. perhaps if it had had the full backing it might have had more interest.

had also just started running intro games at my latest club with a view to running a campaign later this year

Didn't know last week, and we popped some extra goodies in your order to make up for it.

The overshadowing did not help, true, but it is not the reason Noble Armada did not grow as we had hoped.

Almost tempted to buy the last Heracles, but if the game is ending I'll likely never play again as I only ever played in tourneys

Well, I can't deny my disappointment but I won't say it's a massive surprise.

I'll still enjoy playing my solo campaign using the models and rules I already have. i'm tempted to pick up a few item to round out my fleets but I am wondering about the future of Call to Arms.

Now that B5 is no more, NA is no more and Starfleet is sort of moving to ADB it seems to leave Mongoose without a CTA line.

Unless.....

ACTA:TRAVELLER?

Because if that was in the pipeline I'd be delighted (and would save my pennies for that upcoming line)

It's a sad day indeed. No more ACTA in any form.

Support for this line did appear to be overshadowed and now my fleets will probably gather dust.

Out of interest which set of rules were people's favourite? NA had a 19th Century feel while SF had a 20th Century. My only dislike with NA was that the different Houses concentrated too much on their 'own' weapons (e.g. Al-Malik just using missiles/torpedos) rather than having a broader base. In SF everyone had phasers but then had their signature weapon.

I think it is fair to say that A Call to Arms will resurface in the future. Maybe it will be Traveller, maybe it will be something else. We'll see!

This is in indeed bad news but alas not totally unexpected.

I do agree that ACTA:NA is the best iteration IMHO of all ACTA games. Mongoose should really consider coming out with its own original universe and miniatures, and avoid the vagaries that come with being tied to an IP owned by someone else.

I dont know if I would get into yet another CTA having had 2 lines dropped on me so far, kind of lose trust in mongoose anymore

It's a shame, as it's a great game and a nice line of miniatures.

Though I am wondering whether Mongoose will produce another line of ship minis, whether they'll go with a licence or an original background, and what scale they might go with.

Just wondering if rules for the Imperial/Symbiot/League fleets were ever worked out?

If so, would it be possible to release them as a pdf so peeople can use them in play with substitute models?

Right, I'll say this once...

Babylon 5 had 13 different fleets and around 200 ships produced for it (and nearly 40 books, including the RPG). Noble Armada had 9 fleets produced for it.

You really feel hard done by?

Licences end, that is the nature of the beast, and it will _always_ happen. You think GW are going to have LotR/Hobbit forever? That FFG will have Star Wars forever?

When you take a licence, it is for a specific period, at the end of which a decision has to be made (by both parties) whether to continue into another period. Babylon 5 stretched across two periods, but by then you chaps had already bought everything you wanted - there was no way it could continue with a third.

Licences end. That is the way things work.

We have rules for the League, but were waiting for more information from Holistic for Empire and Symbiot. Whether the former get released or not will be down to Holistic/FASA, but i would not be surprised if they never appeared (no reason for them to).

the problem is once a game is not sold then people dont tend to play it and you cannot get people into it.
had alot of interest in my club in NA because GW stopped gothic and literraly the week after I run intro games (which was reason for initial orders) then we get the announcement.

yes GW will lose the hobbit/lotr, this is one reason not to play it (besides the crappy rules).

games I do play:
40k - no external license
battletech - no external license and such a following it got through the barren years.
federation commander - no real external license (just a very strict one)
warmachine/hordes - no external license
dystopian wars - no external license
firestorm armada - no external license
MERCs - no external license
malifaux - no external license

just a few examples from companies that all do their own thing, which is the route mongoose should have gone after B5 really. and none of the companies doing those games have stung me on any of their games (even big bad GW)

yes I and others do feel hard done by B5, you release a new book then decided not to renew (because too expensive) hitting people who had just brought into it.
CTA:NA gets totally overshadowed by CTA:SF
CTA:SF whilst not dead is not a mongoose line anymore really
SST, new races, dropped
BF:evo - total screw up after people got into it and that wasnt even licensed, then dropped.
how long until dredd is dropped?

there are also alot of RPG lines dropped (some of which I started).

there is a reason alot of people dont trust mongoose and used to say as much to me when defending you guys trying to promote your games.

well as I said thats me lost trust also, I dont believe anymore that mongoose is capable of competing on the miniature side of things. if they do want to try they really should produce their own IP if they want to get anywhere and not trying to do too much at once (CTA:SF wasnt the only thing to try to come out at the same time as NA, you were working on dredd and VaS too. 4 games not enough staff).

I have always enjoyed mongooses CTA (B5 and NA anyway) line and think it is still one of the best space combat games out there and it is a shame to see it go but I wont be putting my trust in them again.

ACTA A:2089?

You'll see a mek-based minis game for A2089 before spacecraft :)

Yes but with High Frontier in the RPG book line, there's spaceships and even Space Meks in the mix.

And remember what Shotgun Mike's dad was working on....

Like A:2089, one of the few wholly owned IPs Mongoose have IIRC

I had an idea that something like this was on the cards - I came across a reference to another NA minis game being planned around Christmas... wish I had saved the link.

The problem is we do end up investing quite a lot in a game, and to have it end like this is disheartening, none of the games being developed just now even if license free seem to stand the test of time and die within a few years.

The loss of ACTA:SF back to ADB is another kicker - it removes a local EU developer/distributor meaning we have to import from the states. This restrict the development of these games communities in the UK.
