News About Avenger Enterprises

There is some, and it's covered in more detail on SFRPG

The short version is that we have some new non-OTU SF gaming stuff out, which is compatible with the Traveller rules set from Mongoose.

Hang on a minute. That topic says there is a novel to go with the Far Avalon sourcebooks.

Did you sneak out a psuedo Traveller novel without telling anyone

PS Looking forward to the new stuff.

Actually, the novel is NOTHING about traveller and all about Far Avalon (sort of).

The Actions of Many uses the assumptions of the Far Avalon setting, not Traveller, so there are Conduits (Wormholes) and an FTL drive that is NOT the Jump Drive.

It was first published back in 2007. It is VERY good.

Aha.

So rather than sneaking in a Traveller novel he just snuck in a Sci Fi novel.

Its this whole Dark Avenger persona, too much sneaking around.

Where is this novel for sale?

I remember that book

TAOM was on sale from Comstar. I think it's currently unavailable during the changeover to the new setup, but it will reappear sometime soon I think.

I used to be 'the guy' for Traveller novels and as I understand it I still have a license to do them. I was told by FFE it had never expired and was separate from the Traveller game-stuff license, so tecnically it's still in place. However, due to the politics of the Traveller brand I've dissociated myself from anything to do with FFE and the Official/Original Traveller Universe, so it's safe to say that I won't be doing a Traveller novel any time soon.. or ever.

Unless someone offers me money of course. I like money.

Now available at DTRPG:

Starships and Spacecraft Book 0: Cawthorne

I think that Book 0 might need a little extra explanation, so here is the Introduction from the book ...

Introduction

This book is compatible with the Traveller rules published by Mongoose Publishing, and presents a variant system for handing interstellar travel. All starship components and design concepts in this book can be used without alteration in any game universe based on the Traveller rules, either with or without the extra and variant concepts discussed below.

The starships presented in this series of books were created specifically for the Far Avalon game universe, but can easily be transplanted to another setting. Thus although we do present an alternative system for faster-than-light (FTL) travel, our designs still work with the standard Traveller Jump drive. They have enough fuel to power their drives and sufficient tonnage for all components.

This book presents data on the following:

 An alternate interstellar movement and communication system
 Additional starship weaponry
 A starship design making use of these new concepts

Future volumes in this series will present several designs using the same concepts, which will be summarized where necessary but will not be repeated. We don’t believe in making you pay for the same information over and over, so it’s all here in this one volume for your amusement and edification. Or you can just ignore it all…

To quickly summaries the differences between our game universe and that implied by the standard Traveller rules:

 We use a slightly different technology scale
 We use a different system for faster than light travel, which allows some communication between ships and greatly varied transit times, rather than the one-week-jump system
 We refer to faster than light movement as Translight movement, abbreviated TL.
 We allow in-system (Intrasystem) Translight movement, referred to as ITL
 Interstellar Translight movement requires a more powerful Full-Translight (FTL) drive
 We rate starships differently

That last one requires a slight amplification. Standard Traveller uses certain terms to define a particular type and tonnage of vessel. Thus in Traveller a Cutter is defined as a small craft of a certain tonnage with specific capabilities, but we do not adhere to this convention. Instead we have adopted terminology that seems appropriate. In many cases the usage overlaps but it is wise not to assume that a given title means exactly what it does in traditional Traveller materials.

As an aside, we’ve also dropped the traditional Traveller misconception that a light cut and thrust sword is called a Foil. By definition a Foil cannot be a combat weapon – the term derives from ‘foiling’ a weapon to make it safe (i.e. blunt) for training purposes and came to be applied to a specific sport-fencing weapon in the later 19th Century. A typical light sword of the type might be a rapier, smallsword or sidesword. Trivial? Yes, but the point is that some elements of Traveller terminology apply only to its ‘official’ game universe. Since we’re not writing for that setting, we’ve chosen to use more generic terminology.

Anyway, this is Book 0 in the series. Why book 0? Because this book presents the baseline data for the rest of the series. We’ll repeat what we have to, but we don’t expect people to pay for the same cut-and-pasted text several times over. This book contains one featured ship design. Future volumes will contain several, of which one will be the ‘flagship’ of that volume and will give the book its title. It may be the biggest, best or most interesting craft in the book, but it’s equally likely that it’ll be the one that’s easiest to spell.

... but don't tell MJD that I showed it to you. It will be our secret. ;)
