newbie question SHEILDS how do they work?

Ok could someone please give me a couple of examples on how shields work ?(or a link to a earlier discusion). I think i am doing this right but once the first ship or wpn "breaks through " (knocks down)the shields is the ship just open to damage like a normal ship? anyway |I am confused some examples of multi wpns multi ship attacks against a shadow ship would be great .Thanks Patrick

Shield X/Y

X is the amount of hits you can block (hits are x2,x3 or x4 if double triple or quad damage)
Y is the regeneration of Shields at the end of the turn.

A 10/5 shield can absorb up to 10 hits and will regenerate 5 points per turn.

Ex :

Turn 1
A ship with a shield 10/5 is attacked by two ships.
First ship should deals 4 dmg points(4 hits single damage). Shield is down to 6.
Second ship should deals 2 dmg points(2 hits single damage). Shield is down to 4.

End of Turn 1 the shield regenerates of 5 so shield is now 9/5.

Turn 2
First ship uses a double damage weapon and hits 6 times.
The 4 first are absorbed by the shield. Shield down to 1 (9-4*2)
Since at least one shield point is remaining the fifth hit
is also absorbed.
Shield is now 0/5 and the last hit goes trough and can effectively do damages.

End of turn 2 the shield regenerates of 5 so shield is now 5/5

and so on ....

Edit : Shield value can never exceed X

Those examples are correct, but saying "should deal 4 damage" could be slightly confusing. Shields block hits, not damage points, ie. before you roll on the (confusingly named) attack table. At this stage you don't know how much damage it "should" deal, because you don't know how many crits or bulkheads there would have been.

Thanks guys I just wanted to do it right .My friend wants to try out shadows vs my Narns . I really appreciate it :D

Hmmm since this is here a question then...

My ship has sheilds, it stops hits, does this mean that the early hits stopped don't get a chance at rolling on the bulkhead/crit table?

Burger the one thing that i'm wondering from your statement is do they count each hit from a double/tripple/quad damage weapons as 1 from the sheilds point of view or as the respective multiplyer? (I guessing the latter)

Correct.

The latter, yes. One double damage hit removes 2 shields etc. If you only have 1 point of shields left and receive one double damage hit, it stops the entire hit (no messing around with "well half of the hit got through"...).

Hi Burger,
it was a way to come to "double damage hit does no damage but removes 2 shield points as it should have done 2 dmg pts if non-bulkhead non-critical"

I agree it might be confusing but that's why I added some exemples to try
to be as clear as possible also on the "last shield point blocks the incoming hit whatever the double triple or quad damage trait it may have".

I thought the first line in which I said that shields block "hits" should have been enough but after akenatum last question I must admit I might have been confusing him.

Next time I'll put HITS in bold ;-)
