New Vorlon Ship

Mongoose
This is my first time posting so bear with me. I got it in my head to design my own vorlon ship, due to the fact that they have no raid level, and with the end of the line they just might not. Here is what i came up with:

Vorlon Frigate
Raid
Speed: 8
Damage: 25
Special Rules: Adaptive Armour, Advanced Anti-fighter 2, Advanced Jump Engine, Flight Computer, self-Repairing 1 D6

Weapon: Discharge Gun: Range 24, Arc F, AD 6, Special: Beam, Precise

Any suggestions on this? I plan on using the old B5 Wars fighter, I have them might as well find some use for them.

Thanks James

make it 30 and you need a threshold as well

i think that is too powerfull... compare it to their battle level ships...

i'd make it 3 or 4 dice of double damage precise beam at 24 (because 6 dice of precise beam even if only single damage is a critical dealing machine!)

and maybe just 20 hit points... (since it also has 1d6 repair)

and make it 1/90 turn..

Comparing to what battle level ships? The lowest PL Vorlons have after their light cruiser is the Skirmish level Transports.

Dark Angel

@ EDF er apart from the Battle level destroyer

@ Nightlord - seems ok - maybe a but heavy on the beam dice
- My (shamless plug here  ) version is as follows -for more see my Alt universe

Vorlon Striker (Vorlon Transport Variant) Raid
Seldom seen now, the Striker was the original incarnation of the present transport when the Vorlons actually needed warships of this size. A few remain ready for action and occasionally feel the need to tread the dark places of the galaxy, and they will join with the rest of the fleet to destroy any who choose the wrong path of evolution.

Speed: 8, Turn: 1/90o,Hull: 5, Damage: 24, Craft: None
Special Rules: Adaptive Armour, Advanced Anti-Fighter 2, Advanced Jump Engine, Flight Computer, Self-Repairing 2

Weapon....................Range...Arc.............AD.............Special
Discharge Gun...........18...........F..............4..............Beam, Double Damage, Precise

Seems about right to me :)

My choice would be to make it slightly less tough (Damage 20) but faster (Speed 10). This increases striking power at the cost of survivability, however the point of balance is roughly the same.

Ah well I know what you mean - I lost an entire Shadow fleet including an Ancient to a Vorlon fleet - did not kill a single thing (no hyperspace or terrain) - even the fighters were getting 3- 5 hits with their beams - and then the actual ships fired

that ended my campaign!

Hows this..........

Vorlon Frigate
Raid
Speed: 10
Damage: 20
Special Rules: Adaptive Armour, Advanced Anti-fighter 2, Advanced Jump Engine, Flight Computer, self-Repairing 1 D6

Weapon: Discharge Gun: Range 24, Arc F, AD 4, Special: Beam, Double damage, Precise

Thank you for all your help with this!

Better but it's still probably a touch too good. Compared to my suggestion, it has longer range and more Self-Repair. The range is not a huge issue but the Self-Repair really can stack up on a ship this size.

I was thinking, how does a Vorlon fleet take a planet?

In the show, the answer is, they blow it up from space.

Seriously, in a campaign, what do you do when you WANT to actually control and own a planet? How do you do it without troops? Well, atmospheric does become a possibility, but even then... That's when I thought that you could possibly do it with the missing RAID level ship!

What if this class also gained atmospheric, a troop or 2 and then lost 2 AD?

Now you have a Raid class that serves a very specific purpose and does not trample over any other existing class of ship in the Vorlon fleet. Also, since the Vorlons usually work through others when gaining control of a planet, so this would make that particular Raid level ship even more rare; Just a thought...
