Hi!
I am new into New Traveller. Most of my experience with Traveller I had before was with GURPS Traveller, although I played around with the Classic Traveller character generation. However, today I built 4 characters with New Traveller, so I do have questions on character generation, or Traveller creation, as it is called in the book. I hope someone can help me and I can't promise I won't have new questions tomorrow

1. Rank 0
When do you reach Rank 0: as soon as you are entering the career (directly after succeeding in the qualification roll) or when you do the advancement roll? Do you get the skill from Rank 0 even if you don't succeed in Survive in the first term?
2. Basic Training
When you are doing Basic Training, you don't get to roll on the skill table, correct? So you only roll on the skill table in your second term of any career?
If you are in a second career, is basic training mandatory? Or may you skip it and roll on a skill table instead of chosing a skill of zero?
3. Prisoner
I got into the Prisoner career and I was thinking about Mishaps. If you don't succeed in the Survive roll and a Mishap happens, do you still get your roll on the event table and do you get the advancement roll? Because although you get a Mishap you are kept in the Prisoner career, thus getting the rolls, correct??
4. Commission
The flow chart suggests, that you don't get a roll for advancement, if you are doing the commission roll. However, advancement is mandatory, so if you fail commission, you still get your advancement roll, right? If you succeed in commission, I think you will get instantly your advancement roll for the officer assignment?
