New to Traveller - a couple of questions :)

Hello,

I've never played Traveller before, but I'm currently looking for a new science fiction setting. I'm quite picky on rules and presentation though.

First up, I heard that 2300AD will be out soon. After doing some reading, it seems this setting is a follow up on the old Twilight 2000 setting from way back. Is it so? And if so, will the new 2300AD take into acoount that history in Twilight 2000 is a bit outdated now? Or will this be an "alternative timeline"?

Second, how will the artwork in the new 2300AD be? I've not found any kind of preview. I've flipped through some of the Traveller books, the ones with black covers, and I find that the artworks somewhat minimalistic. Will 2300AD follow the same style?

And thirds, I have come across vague rumours that Traveller will be used for an rpg based on the Star Trek setting. Are there any facts to these rumours?

Welcome aboard Eirik!

Traveller provides a great many rulesets; Mongoose Traveller just happens to be one of the latest and one of the closest to the original ruleset from the late seventies. As the GM you can run Traveller as a Space Opera or as a Hard Science game or anywhere in between. The basic rules are there to get you started, you just pick and choose what you want in Your Traveller Universe (YTU). Mongoose Traveller (MGT) is a bit sparse with art but there are several other publishers out there making content containing some decent artwork that is compatable with MGT if that is what you are looking for.

Keep looking around on this site and you will find the answers to your 2300AD and Star Trek questions.

The RPG is set in the Starfleet universe not the Startrek universe. Its the verse for SFBs that has grown out of TOS and expanded on and on. You can see the thread here.

SFB = Star Fleet Battles - A space combat game based on Star Trek from a few decades ago.

TOS = The Original Series (Star Trek) - But you probably already know that.
