New to GoMC1

Greggoman

Mongoose
Hi I'm new to GoMC1, I've played it before at my local club with rob alderman, and when I get some cash I'm going to buy it and get a undercity gang.

I was just wondering are there any plans for any new miniatures as I haven't seen any since I heard about the game?

I just tried to post all my thoughts, it failed cos I took so long typing it.
I'll try again, in short.

GOMC1 is unpopular right now. It has very little support that is official. No more minis are planned as far as I know. This is probably true.
It is unpopular as it is so 'retro' style. The box draws no eyes and it just looks so badly done. Its a great game hidden in rubbish.

This is why i suggested it was given a boost. Bigger box. Bigger pricetag. More stuff, and to listen to US. The loyal fans.

Necromunda was one of GW's best selling and most popular games, I am still a huge fan of it (I have nearly all the gangs to a huge size).
If GOMC1 was packaged in a similar way it would be brilliant e.g.:
A set of buildings (card) with plastic shop fronts (like the munda bulkheads).
A fold-up city board made out of 'game-board' card, not poster-paper, just big enough for a starter game (make them available seperately for say £8 each (24" square), this remains similar to the average board that size at £6 each.
A set of plastic judges, these have been wanted for ages. Their use is constant and people want them but the dozen. Give around 12 in the boxed set (I'll explain more in a sec).
A few ganger sprues (say 4), not only male, female too. Make sure they are all posable and easy to make individuals that look pretty different, or similar depending on preference.
A rulebook that is not only the GOMC1 rules, but also the Block War rules and a set of basic RPG rules to help run campaigns and short scenarios that do not need miniatures for them. This way judges can get used more (possibly even as Caligula's or similar, fighting each other!). It also allows a less GW campaign style, though this style should remain available as a choice. Of course, this book would be big.
All in a box similar size to the current SST one. All for £65-£75.

This would allow for loads that people wanted to have done.
Plastics done by the barrel full for Block War. So Vehicles, Gangers (of all races), street accessories, judges (lawmasters!) etc etc etc...
Characters other than Dredd, so famed perps.
More support by giving the opportunity for new periods (like scenario books for RPG's but worth the money as it would apply to 3 games really. This would allow for the creation of more minis, some really impressive ones.
I would hate to see pre-paints for this game, it is a very 'personal' game as a Skirmish and it would be very hard to personalise a gang you did not paint.
And with Adrian behind the brush, the rulebook and boxed set would look so much better, the minis in the old version were pap!

I just wish MGP would do something with it thats new and shiny! Pre-paints are something, but a skirmish game with 2 other possiblities and a huge background is something else.

In the past people have asked for:
-Female Gangers
-Plastic Judges
-A new look
-More new rules
-More minis for the gangs (whats better than multi-part plastic for that?)
-Character minis
-Vehicles
-Vehicle rules
-GOMC1-JDRPG exchange rules.

shame really its got a great ruleset, some good figures a good background. Great potential. If I could get on the demo team we should go demo it everywhere

Yeah I was surprised to see no judge anderson, no judge death etc etc

Yeah, we all were. We just get the Heroclix ones and rebase em when we find em.

Already demoed everywhere, Nick (at MGP) used to. I helped a few times. People just don't like it visually as it is so retro style. You need a big box, especially to attract American eyes. It also has to attract non-fans. :)

Hmm is there no one we could contact to tell them to get some new scuplts into action?

Well if it got demoed at shops, shows and maybe some more retailers bought in it would get going again.

Heh, I feel your pain Greggo. I only got GOMC1 a couple of weeks ago. So far, I have two painted Gangs, and my final one on the way, along with judges and the Death on the Streets expansion, basically, I am done and i haven't even had my first Campaign.

To be honest, its a little frustrating, but at least I managed to get into a miniatures game that allowed me to come out of it with my wallet aroun 80 bucks lighter.

The main things that I would want in support now would be

More themed gangs: Undercity, Ape, and Robot gangs were perfect for adding some more flavor to the entire game, adding to the fact that they only Cost about 20$ and you've got a nice product that sells Books and Miniatures!

Vehicles, Please!:From opening the Starter box, this struck me as something that should be addressed, Cars as scenery is nice and all, but I want to do a drive by shooting with my Top dog at the wheel and three gangers in the back yelling their longs out, talk about a Will to Fight check.

Go prepainted?: This one I am slightly iffy about, but considering their Evo rules, and the way that Mongoose is heading with its miniature games. Why not give us a new Boxed Set with Pre-painted pre-assemble gangs. Addmittedly, Some would dislike the permutation, but there is something to be said for "Just open them up and play." Heck, even include a pre-stated gang list, much like the Heroclix Boxed sets.

Dredd it?:I still don't know much about the Dredd universe, my only experience being what the books tell me. But there seems to be a lot of crazy and downright insane stuff going on in Dredd's World, why not some rules for gangs in other Megacities? I know most rules would stay the same, but I can't help but think about yakuza gangs facing off against Judges wielding lightsabers and dressed as Samurai...

Heh, just some ideas from me, a fellow new ganger, good luck, and may Grud be with you.

These posts come around every now and again.... but I wasted too much energy on thinking like this before. One day, Mongoose will release a new Dredd game, making use of the license ("Judge Dredd: Evolution" or something). Until that time, I doubt we will see anything. There have been many promises in the past that just didn't happen. The last time I remember Matthew responding was to say their would be a new specialist figure every couple of months to keep us interested... but nothing else was released. I also recall mention that, if sales on the last released specialists were "good enough" then Matthew would personally commission a female ganger release. That was the last we ever heard on that... despite many attempts to get a response.

On the dream list, which of course will never happen, I would love to see further support for themed gangs. Robots are easy to find extra forces for, but Apes are a bit tougher. Two ape gangs in a campaign and you are almost guaranteed to have duplicate minis. If plastic sprues were ever done for judges and female gangers, why not also do an apes version, and an undercity gang version... ?

Okay, back to reality and searching for minis elsewhere.

I'm really disapointed to hear this and I have sent a huge complaint email to mongoose. Does anyone have any ideas of how we could get mongoose to come around to our way of thinking?

Greg

...buy the lisence and do what you want...or...let Mongoose do/not do what they will... :?

Seriously thou, It's still a great game and has lots of re-play value. I'd like it less if I got quality suppliments and actual figures. (I guess...)

Will simply get ignored.
This game has made little money and they know they can make money with little effort on other things.

Before you Bitchslap them too hard.......

They did put the game out in the first place. Would you prefer they didn't bother at all?

Mongoose is still a business. If they pump support into lines that don't make them enough cash they will go belly up and this place to complain won't even exist!

As a buyer it doesn't put me off that there is a lack of support. I enjoy working on rules systems and creating add on bits myself and I've yet to be convinced that the only way to play my games is with the official supplements/figures...

Games like GoMC1 that appear for a while and then disappear into the mists of time soon become sought after classics or generate a cult following. Games such as this in our club are:
Blue Max
SkyGalleons of Mars
Manowar
Dark Future
Space Hulk
Without anyone selling these new you have to pay silly Ebay prices for them. The number of times I've played Manowar at the club and been asked "so where do I buy this...?"
At least if you demo GoMC1 and others enjoy it they can still buy it!

Greggoman I'm not getting on your case but things could be a lot worse.
They could always remove the game from their range...
Cheers lewis

Yeah I totally agree, that things could be worse but i just think it would be more successful if they put some effort into it

Good point!

I have to say, I'm quite happy with the game as it stands.
The box plus DotS are more than enough to keep me going for quite some time now and I don't intend to stop in the near future simply because there's nothing "new" comming out.

The existing system permits so many different combos and tactics that I don't think I'll ever get to do it all.

Look at it this way: people play chess since millenia and nobody is asking for a pawn that would leap in triangles.

And even then, if you really want to have something new, why don't you try and invent things? I'm about to propose a new specialist to be published in S&P (if they'll take it, that is).

The very fact that there are articles about GoMC1 in this zine should be proof enough that there's still some interest in the game on both the buyers and the producers' side. Even if the media in itself is not necessarilly the best possible way to promote this game.

On the other hand, just judging by the number of topics and messages in this very forum, one can only come to the conclusion that the game is far from being a big hit.
553/5503 topics/messages for GoMC1 against 541/7973 for VaS that came way later and is only one simple rulebook.
Only Mighty Armies comes after GoMC1!
Games that have a big customer base are like ACTA (1908/47004) or SST (752/17574) and let's not talk about BF:Evo (898/19203)...

My two euro-cents...

this is kind a off topic but i didn't want to start a new thread, so does anyone use figures besides th mongoose ones, beacause that kinda seems like a solution to the problem of needing new models, and if so what?

I own almost all of the MGP ones, but I play with a lot of different figs as I like to give my gangs themes and the looks in accordance to those themes. The gang I play currently is "Hell's Angels/bikers" themed and I use Future Skirmish figs for them.

Everything from Future Wars to Necromunda will do the trick as long as it stays reasonably "wysiwyg".
And that's why I like to use the MGP figs for the specialists...

I must say that I have had almost no interest in this game until the Cursed Earth stuff started coming out. This stuff has really go me thinking and I have even been building a small Cursed Earth town called Santuary centered around the rebuilt ruins of a Cathedral. The whole idea of gaming in the Cursed Earth just appeals more to me much more than a game set in Mega City One.

As for minis to populate this town, I have basically grabbed all of the old figs that I have and I am going to start painting them up. A lot of them are old Rogue Trader stuff, but I also have some Void female militia members that I am going to use as well (the scale of these is a little small compared to most stuff out there) and I have some Kroot. Originally I was using these for Skinnie slaves and that I am thinking I am going to try to incorporate some of them as well, including try to convert some so that they have Rippler mounts. Pretty much a mish-mash of anything that I can get my hands on.

I use almost any mini that I can get my hands on. I'm partial to Future Wars for my Human based Gangs and will use just about any model from any line for my Undercity/Ape Gangs. I'm a big fan of Star Wars and D@D pre-painted figs as they have tons of weird stuff. This is not to say that I wouldn't buy any new Mongoose figs...I just know there won't be any more so I use what I can.

...I've bought ALL the releases for Gangs (Most of them twice.) and convinced my Friends to do the same. There is only so much support that my Gaming Group can give...especially when there are a finite amount of Actual figs...that being said, we do what we can to have fun with this game. And to be honest I quite enjoy picking thru endless figs looking for the one that is just right for my next evil plan...so should all of you. A unique Gang IS the point...I think...

I have tonnes of stuff for a home-brewed game that is suitable. Thing is is I feel that home-brewed game in some ways is much better!

Right now GOMC1 isnt selling well, but with a boost, it really could. It demos better than ACTA at shows all the time! :)

Its not that I have a problem with the fact that they may not change the rules, its just I'd like more models because personally I prefer offical models to unoffical greatly. I prefer them because the stats are made my the manufacturor and that just seems more fair than me making them up myself.

So where do you get your models for that represent characters (besides J.D himself)?

Good points raised above. I guess it's not so much that the game needs anything else released for it... as it really does have tons of rules and equipment already... but I can't help wanting more. Especially a modification pack where the judges become more of a focus. Hmm... maybe I'll try a one off game using a mesh of GOMC1 rules and some of the zombie games... but where players use judges and the zombie are replaced by gangers... another thing to do one day when I have time.

For minis, I agree that official minis are nice, and would have loved to see more... especially known characters. However, I totally agree with UMW's point about it being fun looking for minis for your next gang idea, and creating unique looking gangs. There are so many good choices out there for humans... or for mutants in an undercity gang (like Star Wars minis UMW mentioned).

The real shortage comes with an Ape Gang. I put together a list of sources of what I believe to be every available ape mini (not in front of me right now). Gorillas are plentiful, chimps have a good number but we always need more chimps... and Orangutans are extremely rare. Off the top of my head, I can only think of four Orangutans: The mongoose one, a heroclix one, a superfigs one with a bandana, and large scale one from a POTA range. It's fine if there is only one ape gang in a campaign, but my current campaign already has two ape gangs so we'll have plenty of cross-over.

Pretty much any modern or sci-fi characters can work for human gangs, but here are some ideas to get you started:
- Void Militia
- Alpha Forge Games Salvagers
- Copplestone Castings Future Wars
- Heresy Sci-fi
- Hasslefree Adventurers
- Wargames Supply Dump
- Foundry Street Violence
- East Riding Miniatures 22nd Century Corporate World
- Rezolution
- Dark Age

And of course the pre-paints, Heroclix and Star Wars Miniatures. Also, don't underestimate the street gang sprues from Mongoose. I love creating gangs just from them, or adding some heads from old GW ranges when I need something a little different.

There are loads more, but that should get you started.
