MAJOR SPOILERS!!!
No-one one so much as blinks an eye when she attacks the medics, runs off, terminates her alien pregnancy and returns.
Also when the missing crewman turns up at the ship, who then throws people around, is apparently immune to bullets, no-one says "Holy shit, that's wierd. Maybe we shouldn't be messing with this stuff. Let's leave."
And a scientist is infected with something very, very odd after a trip to an alien ship, just carries on. Doesn't warn anyone who is going back to the ship (including his lover).
And after all those people die in strange ways, the super intelligent android and the daughter think it is a good idea to take a frail old man into the ship. Really? I mean really?

Indeed. Given that captain should have been at the screen the whole time, I don't really get how they got left behind. I'm sure it made sense at the time.
More to the point, you'd think they'd have been recording the feed, so when he...ahem...completed his corporate liason work...and got back to the screen, he'd know more than just "hmm...they're gone.." instead, being able to rewind and say "mutant alien snake parasites. Excellent."
True. But to a degree that's fair enough. As soon as they found himself, and the boss started giving orders, David probably ignored anything not directly related to said orders. No-one can be singleminded like an android.
But yes, given that (in the planned version of events) he'd be making use of the medical pod for his employer, you'd think that being told "hideous alien monstrosity inside" would be something you'd go and have a look at.
Whilst David's behaviour is excusable, more to the point, since the crew are currently in "arg, arg, things are trying to kill us" mindset, you'd think they'd want to know.
It's very good. It looks just high tech enough whilst still being believably messy.
Yeah. Illness is the sort of thing you don't keep to yourself on any kind of scientific expedition. And these two aren't supposed to be novices at this stuff (even if they are on the space travel front).
Well that's fair enough. He does what the man in charge says, regardless of personal opinion, and she's absolutely fine with the concept of him getting killed....

Yeah. There is suprisingly little of the 'arg arg things are trying to kill us.' Which is one of my big gripes with what should have been a great film.
It wasn't even, 'my suit got punctured, I will be ok', or 'I've got a bit of red-eye, I'll be okay' - it was 'I'VE GOT A TENTACLE GROWING OUT OF MY EYEBALL!'
But there wasn't a even a token protest was there? Maybe she wants to inherit the company. :twisted:

Ok let me speak my 2 cents here on this topic...
First off I have seen all the trailors for this movie but not the movie yet...BUT I have to say this guys. Unless you have been in Combat situations and under live fire, you have no idea how you might react to the situation. I have been in combat myself, and being a former US Army Airborne Ranger have some view point on at least that experience. Now the "crew" being all Science "Geek - Egg-Heads" with NO Combat training at all, and most likely NO Common Sense either. They would be ill trained or unable to handle a real aggressive situation at all. Yes I would have sent a couple of Troopers (squad) along to baby sit them.
Also lets review the original movie Alien, I have listened to many players over the years talk about that movie and what could have been done and etc. It all could have been solved very easy by lockdown the total ship sealing all Air-tight doors and that would have been the duct-works too. That critter would not have been able to move around at all. They could have then gotten into their space suits and depressurized that ship, and killed it that way in time.
It is a movie and meant to entertain the masses, that is why it is called SciFi Fantasy movie. Great eye candy and food for RPGer's like us to pick it apart and steal parts for our own game campaigns.

Well I saw it this afternoon, and Iwas dissapointed, it is the Starship Troopers 2 of the Alien Franchise, i.e. it could have been done just as eaisly with no reference to the noriginal franchise.
I doubt I'll be buying this when it comes out on home release, and you're talking to a guy who is considering upgrading the Quadrilogy to Blu-Ray even though I have it on DVD.

Actually, most scientists in real-life would do the "sensible thing"... run away.
I would imagine them going back to the ship, freeking out a bit, calming down and realising what a huge opportunity this whole situation would be once they go back home, get a "massive" research grant and return with hundreds of staff.
Of course, once the company sets up the sort of research facility that this requires, the aliens don't stand a chance... pedantic research procedures, anal bureaucracy and corporate security would smother them (a nice reversal).
It would make a crappy film though.

One of the funny things in the movie was when Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) lack air. The count was 30 seconds before asphyxia, she takes helmet off in the sealed and secured area. One minute later, she must flee outside, and... it's fine. No oxygen ? what's the problem ?
New stuff : "Hollywood space suit", no needs to replenish ! always at full capacity.

The problem isn't their reactions to aggressive situations, it is their reaction (or lack thereof) to downright weird situations. Their actions and reaction to the strange and unknown.
While I take your point about the crew of Nostromo being able to handle the situation better, they were freighter crew who were confronted with a situation for which they were way out of their depth. The crew of the Prometheus were scientists who's job is to explore the unknown and they just blundered in and continued to blunder.

Saw the movie. As I watched I'm thinking how various aspects could be used for Traveller. Here is a scenario featuring a patron sending a group to uncover a scientific mystery with consequences no one planned on.
Personally I thought it was a great Alien prequel! Had the feel of the older movies with the freshness of this decade's movie effects abilities. Not to give much away, it filled in so many unanswered questions while, damn it, leaving us with more speculation.

Well I just saw the movie and it was good BUT I will make some comments later.

OK saw the movie and I have had a chance to think about it for a while...wow!
Ok the beginning Aliens "The Engineers" came to Earth in the distant past and casued human life to form through the gene engineering of themselves and their own genes...the they must of came back 7 times to different civilizations at 7 different locations on the Earth and left the star chart "hint". Fast forward to 2090 or so and they travel to this other world and find this Alien installation. They find a live Alien in cryo sleep and awaken him and what happens...He kills them all...WHY???
Now we saw that something horribly went wrong at that installation becsause of those Holograms showing those past events, what and why? Why create a race and then want to destroy it? It all doesn't make sense, and what happened to the culture known as "The Engineers". What happened to them and their civilization? Something doesn't add up here.
