New Posting Rules

Hi guys,

After a great deal of consideration, we have decided to institute new rules on posting here.

The Traveller community has a reputation for being fractious and divided, with flame wars common on their forums. From this point on, this will not be the case here.

If you participate in the discussions on this forum, you will refrain from making derogatory comments about other posters, other versions of Traveller, and writers of Traveller material.

We are going to start policing this forum, and watching for such attacks. Any such comments we see will be deleted immediatly. If they are judged to be serious, or if several such comments are made by one person, then we will start banning people from this forum.

You are welcome to let me know if you think anyone else has crossed the line, and you are welcome to make critical comments about the new Traveller rules - so long as you are not rude about it. We are not trying to enforce a single code of behaviour with regards to our games - we are just trying to ensure that any fan of Traveller who comes here feels welcome.

Matt, thank you for supporting Traveller. I appreciate the lengths to which you wish to make the community civil; I regret that such measures are needed.

Thanks Mattew,

This should help, I for one do not like being attacked just for posting an opinion. Traveller is an old game, with many people playing it in their own way. Useing the rules and supplements, that work for their gameing group and leaveing out the things they don't like. With a basic version of the rules be released as an OGL, I hope more people will try the system in some form. I was never a big fan of the "kill stuff for exp and level up for more killy power" game systems. This is why my 3 top RPG picks are RuneQuest, Champions and of course Trraveller.

Thank you!

Now, since I (hopefully) have your attention, can we have a fix of traveller? Since the date has been pushed back, some of us are having withdrawal symptoms. Maybe an idea of the T/E fixes or starship build rules?

Please?

:-)

We'll see what we can do!

Well, it needed to be said. I do think that some people need to start looking at the big picture, and get behind the game now.

There has been some issues in the playtest - but that is what playtests are for. If the creators have been gracious enough to take in playtest reports of what we think, then I think it's only right that fans give the game a chance to succeed.

The fact is that the Traveller community is still most probably the single largest sci-fi rpg gaming group in the world - and if the system is open and attractive, there could be something of real value to long term Traveller fans, simply by bringing a fractuous community together again.

Thanks Matthew
Good Move, the vast majority of us are on your side and very appreciative of your reboot of the old girl.
Mongoose is breathing a lot more life into the game & it has saddened many of us to see your own board descending into the same old flame war-ground.
Keep up the good work & ignore the minority of idiots (oops - will that get me banned?), they are not representative of most Traveller fans.

I really appreciate this decision. Now that Mongoose Traveller will soon
be available, there will be much to discuss, and I am looking forward to
being able to do this without a series of personal feuds cluttering the
forum with attacks and insults. :D

Even though I do not post on this traveller forum all that much I am interested in the game, and appreciate this decision. I was put off posting here one day when I scrolled fown the thread and found no less than three or four locked flame war threads.

I think it is not necessary to instigate this rule anywhere else however, and feel there is a lot of baggage with some people about the game.

The difference I noticed between this forum and another one that is for gamers, that I will not name:

If someone here sees something they dont like, they are either nice about it, dont go into the conversation, or at least try to get a perspective on the other side's argument for the most part.

On the other forum, well, I stopped posting there because I found people very rude and off putting, which more or less put me off an otherwise successful and well supported miniatures game.

Thanks Matt, can't wait for Traveller.

Thanks for that Matt.

I try very hard to NOT be rude and such but don't take too well to someone else doing just that, especially towards me, so the 'clarification' of the rules is good for all.

The rule says "If you participate in the discussions on this forum, you will refrain from making derogatory comments about other posters, other versions of Traveller, and writers of Traveller material."

What about this rule is inappropriate for the other Forums?
Which other Games require "derogatory comments" about other posters, other versions of the game, and writers of the material?

[I'm just teasing you. Every once in a while it is important for a Stoat to pole a Duck-Billed Mongoose just a little. No harm intended.]
