New Hyperions?

I know it's a bit of a cheek given the problems people are having getting hold of models at the moment, (oh where, oh where have my breaching pods gone..) but there was an intent to relaese the new Hyperions before Christmas. Doing a swift mathematical formulae involving the rate of model production, shipping forecasts and the intransigence of Royal Mail I'm guessing they won't be filling anyones stockings this year.

My real concern is will they be available before the end of Jan as I fancy unleashing a pack of Missile and Command Hyperions on any lurking Centauri.

I guess only matt can answer, but i am sure if you are desperate then some stockists may well still have current hyperions in stock?

You'll see the Drakh Mothership first. At least three of the new Hyperions are practically ready now, but we will be delaying them until a) the Mothership is on general release, b) Adrian paints them and c) we can guarantee supply to everyone who wants them!

Likely January - those coming to the Earth-Centauri War will probably be among the first to get their hands on them.

But didn't I see the new mothership months ago, at the open day?

What happened this time?

Will you still be able to use your old hyperions as the variants or are we gonna start having not the right model discussions for tourneys?

That would be a very interesting discussion, seeing as there are no official requirements in the original rules set requiring such. The WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) rule is almost impossible to enforce at this scale (NO, that's NOT a Gunship variant Olympus, you DIDN'T remove all the other turrets!!!). And how in the heck is anyone ever going to tell the various G'Quan variants appart? Who's gonna put the rubber glove on and check just how OLD that Shadow ship is, anways?

That would also mean that to use paper counter, we'd have to start blanking out or adding in the various flavors of turrets and other associated weaponry. WAY too cumbersome, and all but impossible, as they're 2 dimensional representations.

I think it would be best to continue with the "Full Disclosure based on sensor sweep" as a means to differentiate the various types of ship instead of going the GW route mandating exacting models of every detail of each ship variant.

Proxy models are one thing, and not tourney approved for anything I've ever seen.

Page 3 of the 2nd edition rule book specifically addresses scale and states "Regardless of the scale of your miniatures (original or Fleet Action), they can be used freely in A Call To Arms", and would seem to immediately INVALIDATE any discussion along the lines of "...each ship variant must be represented by the detail appropriate model..."

Maybe I'm not very up-to-date, but when you say "Hyperions", how many separate models are we actually talking about Matt?

I mean, sure we can convert, but officially?

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You EA are going to be needing all the hyperions you can lay your dirty hands on; after we Centauri have laid waste to your pretty CEA fleets in the upcoming campaign.

True but it seems a little daft to buy half a dozen old ones only to have them sit on the shelf when the new ones arrive. Ho, Hum Novas it is then.

Are the new Hyperions the same size as the current ones or will they be smaller or larger?

Same size.

These Hyperions are an experiment - we won't require WYSIWYG at our own tournaments. Whether we do any more variants for other ships depends on you guys!

I will be buying about 8 Rail Hyperions! There even better then Artemis Frigates... which means I can use Artemis escort frigates! This just keeps getting better and better :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

And a very welcome experiment. I for one tend to convert ships to make the variants stand out, so this will hopefully lead on to some very exciting options in the future.

Will the new minis have a different/revised mounting point for the base stem?

Yes! This is the one thing that prompted us to do a new model in the first place!

The variants came about because the new model was created using computer/rapid-prototyping technology, which means it was a relatively simple matter to add or take away bits and pieces from the basic Hyperion.
