New Glorantha Book is Great, But...

No Ducks! There is only one scant mention of them. Please tell me there will be more in later supplements?

I can't say enough about how cool this book is. For a Glorantha neophyte like myself, this is just the tool kit I need to get my players excited about this world.

I will definitely buy the Ralios PDF now!

Barring anything getting removed in the editing stage, Ducks see some lovin' in the Player's Guide to Glorantha.

Don't worry...I love those little sardonic freaks too. :)

Is the Players guide going to have crunch or be all fluff?

It would be nice to have some Gloranthan specific character backgrounds, etc.

It would? That's awesome...because there is ALOT of crunch AND Second Age fluff in the book!

I really had a blast putting it together, so I hope the Gloranthiphiles enjoy it as much as my home-game players/playtesters are.

Well, we do have a killer puffin in there :)

I think it is safe to say that, in the fullness of time, Ducks will be getting a lot of love from Mongoose. . .

I am still in favour that ducks are in glorantha because of EWF experiments.
This IS Second age, and the EWF is active, so the ducks should be in Dragon Pass, nowhere else*.

I don´t want to see ducks all over glorantha. Aldryami, Mostali, Uz, and even Dragonewts are located in a lot of places by that time, but ducks should be a local species IMHO.

* except that there might be actually duck keets around somewhere.

Ah, but there's a school of thought that the EWF recreated the ducks based on mythical examples. Some of the original ancestor ducks survived and lived on the fringes. After the fall of the EWF, they intermarried with the EWF ducks and became as one.

So, you'd get ducks in Dragon Pass and the occasional ancient duck colony elsewhere, but they would be very odd ducks.

My pre-order of Glorantha the Second Age came in the mail from Mongoose yesterday along with Monsters. The book is simply amazing. As a long term, old time Gloratha-phile I have to say that it really brings Glorantha to life as a playable setting like no other Glorantha supplement ever has before - and to top it all off like the cherry on top of an Ice Cream Sunday it make Glorantha FUN again. This book has no rules, but it is packed with interesting, fun, gamable info that is a joy to read. This is what I had hoped for from Hero Wars and HeroQuest, but unfortunately never got.

Thanks RObin for one incredable book. Now back to reading, planning my campaign, and hoping the other books in the line can live up to the quatilty presented here.

That's very promising! Could you give us the index list? What does the book contain?

SGL.

OK, here it is in brief:

1. Welcome to Glorantha (intro loaded with basic info)
2. The Two Empires (God Learners and EWF)
3. Major Cultures (myths, perspectives on life, adventure, etc.)
4. Major races (history, adventure perspectives, etc. no Ducks!)
5. World Gazetteer (filled with nice mini-maps)
6. Campaign Setting (detailing Safelster)
7. Throrough Index

Hope this whets the appetite!

The Ralios PDF? What is that? The preview? Or is it something you pay for and then download?

SGL.

It is 41 pages that got cut from the final Glorantha book by Robin Laws.

It is available as a PDF from drivethroughrpg.com for $4.95.

It is from the detailed campaign setting part of the book (the book details the Safelster part of Ralios - the pdf covers the 'wild' parts of Ralios). It has been formatted as a stand alone publication with contents and an index. Like the Glorantha book it is rules free.

IMHO is is definately worth the price. It is also a good preview of the book - if you don't like the Ralios PDF you may want to skip the Glorantha Book.
