New default campaign area?

Mongoose
I don't know why it too me so long to notice this, but the default campaign area for Mongoose RuneQuest seems to have moved from Ralios to the Holy Country. Just look at the supplements that are out now or will be out in the near future - Cults 1 & 2, Magic of Glorantha, and the Clanking City. These suppliments are of limited use for a person running a game in Kustria. They are pretty darn useful for a Holy Country game, though.

So... why the shift in focus? Is it intentional or just the unexpected outcome of their publishing schedule? Will there be more support for Ralios in the future?

Uh... WTF? CoG has a lot of material suitable for Kustria and Ralios. I went out of my way to put in cults and schools that are found in this area. Note that most of the focus of the cults such as Grain Goddesses are Ralian in nature.

If anything, I feel I went overboard in portraying Dara Happan materials and "same old damned Orlanthi stuff."

Clanking City is the Kewl Factor in God Learner wankery. And an overview of cults will necessarily cover cults from everywhere. And on that basis, cults FROM anywhere are pretty much worshipped somewhere in what is not yet called the Holy Country.

EDIT: That said, I admit that one of the cults I specifically wrote - the Saint Cult one for the default city - did not appear in the final product. A pity as it was specifcally geared to the Ralios pdf and added at the specific request of Robin Laws.

Isnt all the cult stuff usefull just about anywhere ?

Magic of Glorantha likewise is handy wherever the EWF and god learners go, which is..everywhere :)

I suppose I should get some more 2nd and 3rd Age Slontos/Wenelian stuff written. I am told its my area of expertise.

And I strongly encourage you to do so! Your Blood Over Gold book has been on my "eagerly awaited" list for a looong time now. It sounds like it will be a ton of fun.

BTW... yes, referring to the Mirrorsea Bay area as the Holy Country was pure laziness on my part. My apologies, everyone, for letting my Third Age roots show!

Thanks. I'm looking forward to seeing it. Frankly, the ms is so old, I look at it and think "I could write better now" but I always think that. ;)

But yeah, I've been told I'm the Maniria Guy so... get Maniria-ing. And I just had a scathingly brilliant idea for a campaign earlier to day.

No worries. And it looks like I can make it to Stellar Con afterall - which I belive you are helping organize. Shan't be doing much other than maybe helping out with some MRQ and HQ and the like. Its odd. This will be the first con in ages where I am not a guest or demo guy and will just go and play/talk/schmooze.

Looking forward to meeting folks. Greg will there and I owe him a "not crappy American Beer" that I shall have to make good on.

It's great news to hear that you can make it! As for the organization, there isn't much to report. Greg is going to run Pendragon and HeroQuest and I am going to run RuneQuest and Mythic Russia. That is about the extent of things this time around, really.

That said, I am really looking forward to StellarCon. See you there!

PS: For those who don't know, StellarCon is a "speculative fiction" convention in High Point, North Carolina, USA. It is taking place March 9 - 11. Greg Stafford is the Gaming Guest of Honor.

The Clanking City was a huge conflict area between the Jrusteli and the rest of the world, with Orlanthi, Mostali and the Seas working together to destroy it.

After all, the Shadowlands area and Ralios are the only two regions between the EWF and Jrusteli, I think, so it would make sense that they are the two areas where most EWF/Jrusteli interaction takes place. Presumably when Alakoring gets his act together, more will be written about Ralios.

I've just had a thought - were the EWF involved in the Orlanthi attacks against the Clanking City? Dragon Pass and most of the traditional Orlanthi are under the EWF's control, so it might make sense that the EWF are using the Orlanthi involvement to fight the Jrusteli by proxy.
