new conan releases on amazon

LordNull

Mongoose
I did a publisher serch on Amazon yesterday and found they have listed 3 new releases for Conan. They are Hyborian Bestiary,Call of Darfar and Player's Guide to the Hyborian Age The first two have release dates of September 27, 2007 . The third October 29, 2007. Vincent is doing the Call of Darfar and the Players Guide. Bryan Steele is doing the Beastiary. :D

Thanks for the info, but you should have noted the links.

From what I read I just hope Player's Guide to the Hyborian Age is not something like Tito's trading post for PC's (that is some sort of compilation from all the other books. And why only 96 pages again when Mongoose has now its own printer and can publish more pages at lesser cost?

So we will have the Return to the Road of Kings AND the Player's Guide to the Hyborian Age? I could guess at the differences but with Vincent stopping by - let's go right to the source!

Mr. Vincent Darlage on the differences between the two Gazetteers:

(Vincent's comments)

Thank you sir!

Let's see:
Road of Kings - my first effort as a freelance writer for a new product about a subject I am very passionate about.
Return to the Road of Kings - my best effort EVER as an experienced freelance writer for an established product about a subject I am still very passionate about.

:D

As far as I am concerned, ROK set a bar, and I intend to blow it out of the water.

My goal for Return... is the same as I had for the original - to create a gem of a product that any Conan fan would be proud to have on his or her shelf, whether they are gamers or not. I guess you guys will decide whether I succeed at that or not.

As for the Player's Guide to the Hyborian Age, that is not a gazetteer.

Oops. My bad Vincent! As a fan who has bought almost every Conan RPG book in the line, here can be no doubt that Road of Kings is a gem and worth twice the price. The fact that you plan on blowing Road of Kings out of the water with Return to the Road of Kings is sweet music to us fans.

But, I was hoping to get some insight on the Players Guide to the Hyborian Age - if not a gazetteer, then by Set's monthly sacrifice - what is it?!

Its hard to describe. I guess you could call it a tool box of stuff to create and/or develop characters in a distinctly Hyborian age fashion.

Mr. Vincent Darlage, you should be ashamed of yourself. I work very hard for my money, and then you put a gaming book to my back while I'm standing at the ATM and say "Don't you think that money would be better spent at FRP Games*?"

But seriously, I'm stoked about Return. I'm more curious about the Player's Guide than anything else though. If you can elaborate (that being, I don't know how much you're allowed to say at this point); is it another book like the Hyboria's F. . . series that will contain lots of useful material for novices and veterans alike? Or will it be more like the D&D Hero Builder's Guide, which is geared more towards helping you design a character using the available Core Rules, and so is not very useful to veterans?

*In case that reference confused anyone, I buy most of my gaming books at FRP Games (won't actually type the URL in case that can be taken as promoting their website), as it is much cheaper to go through them than to get them at the disgustingly-overpriced 'friendly neighborhood gaming stores' in my area of Canadaland.

With one exception, I write all the books so that they will be useful for me (a veteran of 25+ years), so I think there will be goodies for everyone.

I am not familiar with the Hero's Builder guide, so I can't compare or comment in that regard. I can say that it is not just more of the Hyboria's F... series. Very different in most respects.
