need advise on picking a fleet...

A variant 5-Battle fleet like this has been run by Davesaint to horrific effect at tournaments:

5 Hyperions squadroned together (beam doom)
2 Oracle
3 Olympus
10 Hermes

The Narn gets to boresight Hermes, and Hermes only.

The above fleet has ridiculous crunch power, espeically against boresight fleets that won't get to line up shots on the damaging Hyperions. Battle-level ships are also toast, as 20 AD of Scout-Supported SAP beam makes ships melt; never mind the Hyperion's secondary weapon suite!

Yes, that was my Briere fleet. All of the fighters were T-Bolts and all of the Missles were Flash missles. The Narn I fought against had 1 Varnic, 2 G'quons, 2 Gkarith, 3 Katan, and a Sho'kov scout.

Turn 1 I blew up a Gquon and a Gkarith. Turn 2 I blew up the other G'quon and the other Gkarith. Turn 3 I killed a Katan with my hermes and crippled and skel'd the Varnic with my rear boresights off of the Hyperions and my t-bolts. After that, it was pretty much mop up duties.

I think I lost an olympus and 2 hermes for the fight. It was a very, very ugly fight for the Narn.

I am still quite amazed when I hear people talking about how much firepower the Nova has. Frankly putting a nova into a close range furball against the narn is a losing proposition for the Nova. Against hull 5 narn skirmish hulls you will averaging 4 hits to the front and 6 hits to either side. so you do 4 and 4 to the front and rear and 6 and 6 with maybe a crit to the side? I figure that you will likely see 2 Ka'tans on your side. At range 8 that's 16AD assuming he doesn't boresight you with one of them. he will hit with 5-6 of which you will absorb 2-3 with your interceptors. Big deal. If he manages to borsight you with one of them, you eat 4AD of SAP DD Beam.

The Narn have just too many dice to get into a close range furball. God forbid if its a t'loth on your side. Your 6 damage will make him yawn at you.

The only advantage to bringing a Nova over a Hyperion is the extra T-bolts. Otherwise, take the Hyperion.

Briere --- is that what you get when you melt Brie and Gruyere cheeses together?

Or does it have something to do with the free agent Hockey player? Does he run 3rd Age?

French-Canadian hockey players strike me as more like, well, ... Drazi. I mean, when a brutal fistfight with a rival determined only by team affiliation and nothing personal only gets you 5 minutes of penalty time -- well, it seems like a natural fit.

It's a blended cheese that resembles a French-Canadian hockey player.

Thing is the Nova is such a great looking model.

Davesaint, we'll have to play our respective lists from the last tourney.

I agree, the Nova is an awesome looking figure, just like I love the look of the Dargan. It's just when you compare it to the other ships at it's PL level, it just doesn't cut the mustard.

One of these days, I will fight the Tinashi, Shantavi, and Morshin stack of doom! I just need to remember to bring my lucky dice of stealth breaking.

And yes, I am still bitter that you finished ahead of me in that tournament on points.

I like the Nova, no its individual arcs aren't as strong as some other raid (or even skirimsh ships), the thing is it chucks out loads in EVERY arc, you park it in the middle of a furball and it damges everything around it, and in a furball its easy to get out single arc big weapons, with the nova there is no escape.
