Need A Dead Race From Traveller Canon

Does anyone know of any dead/dying races, preferably humanoid, from Traveller canon?

The only one that comes to mind is former population from Sabmiqys.

Need this for a campaign I am running.

Since the estimates in Canon are that the Ancients seeded Humaniti on more than a hundred worlds and there are only 40-odd still around, you have a very large pool of unnamed but Canon extinct races to work with.

If it matters, the Loeskalth are near Vland, the Primordials in Massilia, and the Kirrixurians from Ruupin Sector in the heart of K'kree space. If the Yaskoydri are who I think they are, they are thousands of parsecs away from Charted Space, strung out along the Zhodani Core Highway.

The Loeskalth are not really a dead race, they have been absorbed
into Vilani culture. The Yaskoydri remain unknown until after the Re-
bellion Era, the Third Imperium has not encountered them. The Viji
are a rumoured race, it is uncertain whether they exist. The Inheri-
tors are very much alive, and since they are a GURPS Traveller spe-
cies their "canonical" status is disputed. The Aakho are also still ve-
ry much alive, and their "canonical" status is also disputed. The Pri-
mordials are "canonical", but treating them as a dead race could re-
sult in a surprise. The Others (= the Thaki) are a really very dead
race, but not necessarily a "canonical" one.

The website I draw those consider all published Traveller material as canonical (regardless of publisher)...whether One applies the same or not in One's setting is different.

No problem there, I just mentioned it because I know that
some people start to foam at the mouth whenever some-
thing published by Digest Group or Steve Jackson Games
is called "canonical". :D

Both are case by case.

As a genetic group the Loeskalth are a dead race, having been absorbed by the Vilani and, IIRC, the Vlazhdumecta. The same can almost be said of the Yileans, who were genetically absorbed by the Vilani but who remain a distinct subgroup of hybrids because of relative isolation. The Syleans almost suffered the same fate but were "saved" by the Long Night. They then went on to breed themselves out of distinctiveness after founding the Third Imperium, and are now a small part of the Imperial Baseline Human.

The only time foaming at the mouth is allowed in this forum is when one is drinking a really good German beer.

Not that care either way but there is actually a semi-decent reason why the SJG 'extra races' in their AR books are a bit controversial - they were originally from the Aliens & Artifacts book for I.C.E's Spacemaster RPG. David Pulver had originally written them for that, and years later he added them into the OTU with some tweaks. Unfortunately most didn't really fit that well into the OTU (which is a shame, because some of them were actually pretty interesting without the shoehorning).

Chuck the Valkyrie and the funky psi-fungus things completely.
Tone down the Inheritors or move them another sector to trailing.
Move the Clotho out of the Addaxur spot (they're fine, just not as the Addaxur).
The rest didn't annoy me enough to retain a strong opinion.

By the way, I think I would have liked the original concept of
the Primordials a lot more than the "canonical" Virus thing: A
race as powerful as the Ancients with a realm near the Core,
reacting to their encounter with the Zhodani expeditions with
a campaign into Charted Space that forces the various factions
to end the Rebellion conflicts in order to cooperate against the
invaders.

You mean the "Baddies from the Core" metaplot that would have kept the setting in spectator mode for another five years? Bleh.

I see the Virus thing as a far worse case of "spectator mode".
The player characters had no opportunity at all to deal with
the spread of Virus, it happened entirely "off stage", the play-
ers only were told what had happened a couple of decades
down the timeline. The invasion scenario would at least have
offered an opportunity for some interesting adventures, the
Virus thing kept the players as spectators until the aftermath
of the actual events.

I was referring to five years of "gamer time", out here in the real world. Virus was done, described, and 70 years on in two months of publications.

Yep, which either terminated all Rebellion Era campaigns or
forced them to continue unsupported by official material. I
would very much have preferred five game time years with
the background of a Primordials invasion to the sudden end
of the Rebellion metaplot - but this is a matter of taste, and
off topic anyways.

Do you remember how much (real world) warning we got of the assassination and re-boot from CT to MT?

Classic era OTU campaigns gone - just like that.

It then took nearly 5 years (real world) to produce a setting that was player "friendly" - Hard Times.

On topic - the race that constructed the Shadows pyramids spring to mind.

In T5 a major race that developed between the demise of the Ancients an the rise of humaniti is mentioned.

Being around during The Collapse would have most likely killed the PCs though. When Virus first hit it was indiscriminately destroying everything. It was only later that the more subtle/evolved versions showed up.

I much prefer the TNE setting as it is, since PCs were (a) survivors or descendants of what came before and (b) now had tons and tons of interesting and exciting things to do that actually made a difference to the setting (unlike previously). The aftermath was far more interesting than what came before IMO.
